First Direct Secure Key

There is a thread over on the Savings & Investments board about the recently introduced Secure Key/Digital Secure Key for First Direct customers. I feel this is very relevant to this board (where I first searched for it), so I suggest it is moved here. In any case, this is where you'll find it.
Oh, and the Digital Secure Key doesn't work offline. Poor design, FD.

First Direct say that it does:
"Do I need to be online to use the App on my device?
The Digital Secure Key is stand alone. It will work anywhere, without being connected to Wi-Fi or mobile networks. The Banking on the go App, however, needs a connection to link to your bank accounts."0 -
I wonder if it is a worthwhile strategy to go with the Secure Key initially and then switch to a Digital Key straight away. That way you have a spare Secure Key you can switch to immediately if you happen to lose your mobile device.MFiT-T3 #149: {Q4/14} (£46,447)-->(£0) ~ +£46,447=100%

Don't think you can use both at the same time. It says in the Q&A that you can switch from one to the other but you have to phone them to do it.0

They don't allow you to use both its either the device or the digital secure key.
This handy link from the FD webiste will explain most of it.

I was only suggesting the I would have the Secure Key in my possession but switch to the Digital Key. Then if I lost my phone I could quickly switch back to the Secure Key without having to wait for a new one to arrive. Mind you it may be that a Secure Key can only be registered once and when unregistered it cannot be re-registered.
Silly idea really as can always use the telephone banking.MFiT-T3 #149: {Q4/14} (£46,447)-->(£0) ~ +£46,447=100%

Like you suspect, once you activate one, the other becomes unusable. Or rather, it still generates codes, but the codes no longer work on the website.
Telephone banking is far easier.0 -
I set mine up yesterday using the phone app. A little fiddly for the initial set up but seems a good idea to me to be able to use your phone instead of having to carry a separate fob around (my phone is almost always with me anyway).
Logged in using the app key from the phone today and it was all pretty painless. Don't see why these things sometimes create such a drama on the boards.0
