Or people like to be able to access internet banking wherever they can get online whether they have their phone with them and a signal and avoiding paying massive data roaming charges or whatever and those with several different bank accounts would rather not carry around a dozen randon keygen devices....I think....0

I don't see how "massive data roaming charges" is the fault of the bank...and those with several different bank accounts would rather not carry around a dozen randon keygen devices....
Likewise, when I'm away from home, I don't have the urge to make payments from every one of my bank accounts. Typically I have access to a single bank account for emergency usage. The rest can look after themselves until I return.
Apart from HSBC/FD, all my devices are interchangeable, so I have one at home, one at work, and one in the car, all from different banks.0 -
I haven't yet been asked which thpe of secure key I want. Is this a phased roll out onto accounts? I thought it was changing in September for everyone?0

Yes its a phased roll out but by the end of the year when you log-on onto FD IB/smartphone app you'll be provided with the choice of hard key or digital key or no key at all.0 -

It appears First Direct can enrol you for the secure key over the phone though they may fob you off (in that case call them again). When I called them last week they told me i had to wait...i just called them again the the fella said no problem, he gave me the activation code 1 for the digital key and i'm all setup. However be aware the password for the digital key generator MUST be 6-9 characters long and must include letters & numbers and you can't have too many of the same characters :eek:0 -

My key arrived today. I wonder how long it will be before they lose patience and tell me I can't log in without using it?0

I've just read the bumpf from FD and a few things came to mind:
"We're the first UK bank to introduce a two-factor authentication device like this"... Right, so that's why you didn't go with the trend and issue a card reader so we can just borrow a friends if it breaks or the batteries run flat. It's so you can say "We're the first". It all makes sense now.
"To logon, you need your username, memorable answer and secure key security code". Wait, if the secure key is that secure why do I need to enter a memorable answer as well? Why can't I just enter my username and security key code? I can with Nationwide. Or is the secure key actually not that secure?0 -

You can log into FD internet banking without using the Secure key...you just won't be able to make payments to new beneficiaries.
One thing i've noticed with having a digital secure key is that you just need your digital secure key password to login via the app - ala Barclaycard iphone app ( ie no need to enter your username, then memorable info, then password)0 -

But, on logging in this morning, the first thing that comes up is the answer: "You need to upgrade your security by 18 December 2013".0
