It's not all in your head, Pinot. You have an absolute right to accurate information and as far as I can see, you were given information that isn't correct. (We also found that with my mother. I didn't tell you about my mother's case because I needed to blow off steam after all these years, I told you because what you have to do is argue the case about how ill she was, and that is very, very distressing to have to relive repeatedly.) It can take years to deal with this.
Playing Devil's Advocate, the reality is - there isn't enough money in the health or social care fund to take care of everyone's needs. Local health commissioning bodies hammer out local guidelines and then tell everyone that's all that people are entitled to. It's not true. It's the politicans and NICE who decide what should be provided but whether central government provide enough money to meet the needs of the population is a different thing altogether. I'm not talking about party politics, this is real politik.
There are organisations that were set up specificially to help patients and relatives find their way through this minefield but they need to be local to talk about what's actually happening. It is a postcode lottery. I strongly suggest you find out what support is available to you locally and the best way to start is through your local CAB.
If you've got a really good MP, contacting them to find out if they can help is always a good idea and puts pressure on the MP to find out what's going on in their patch - they should know but they obviously didn't in East Staffordshire for example.
Please don't start by going to the press. It won't help. The story that gets printed will be nothing like your version and there are things that work and things that don't. Getting the media involved at this stage is counterproductive and I'd question if it ever helps, other than to fill and therefore sell newspapers.Better is good enough.0 -
How's it going PG?

Aaaargh ...just realised that I have been MIA all week .
It must look as though I have poured all my troubles out, listened to all your lovely advice and then run away again to hide. Im sorry.
Thankyou all for convincing me that this isnt all in my head re the situation with DM.
Honeybear your words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. I wasn't thinking at all of going to the press, infact it hadn't even crossed my mind, nor the MP, but thankyou for the advice. My plan for now is very easy going, I just want to ask the question really as to who made the decision that she wasn't fast track and why. I'm not intending going in great guns and making a fuss, I have had too many arguments this week with other organisations in connection with DM, I'm all out of arguing right now, but watch this space :rotfl: ! If don't get anywhere or get the answers I need I may then just let it lie. I have applied for the hospital notes, I heard back from them yesterday, but I had sent the wrong amount of money, so had to re-write the cheque and send back before they will begin the process. It can take up to 40 days. Accessing her Doctors notes is even more involved. I currently have no Grant of Probates left to sent anybody, so until they are returned , I cant apply for the Doctors notes, but its the hospital ones I am more interested in seeing at the moment.
Its a start and I will see where we go from here.
This is a very rushed post, heading to a meeting, but I will try and pop back later with some other updates,if I can think of anything .

That sounds like a very sensible approach, Mrs PG. I meant to say, the car key thing sounds as though you are already dealing with more than you can handle comfortably, so (((hugs))) to keep you going. Good luck with it.Better is good enough.0

Mrs PG, a few years back, there was a very long thread on here about continued healthcare. It would have been on the over 50s sub board. No idea as to whether it's still running, but I seem to recall there was a large amount of useful information on there.
Good luck with it all. X
dangers, I need to apologise to you. I have just skim read back over my last few posts and I honestly thought that I had replied to your message above. I cant see my reply anywhere though, so perhaps I just answered in my head
I did take a look over on the other board that you mentioned, there seemed to be lots of mention about similar things, funding etc. I appreciate you pointing me over there as I wouldn't have thought to look. I will take some time out to do some reading, but that's really helpful, thankyou so much.xLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

I was just popping on for a quick update, as I very very bored today. I'm on paperwork and head is a bit brain numb and I Saw your message Honeybear . You reminded me that the whole car key thing actually got worse that week, only it wasn't me it was Mr PG. He managed to lock the car keys in the boot of the car after finishing work on the Friday afternoon. He had got away early for a change, 1pm and was hoping to head home from Birmingham before he hit all of the Friday traffic. Locking the keys in the boot put paid to that. Breakdown couldn't get in the car, neither could some locksmiths that were called out, breakdown didn't want to do the journey with the car on the back of a truck all the way home as their drivers would be into overtime by the time they got back home . By 6pm there was still no resolution as to how Mr PG would get back. At this point the only options left to us was me driving all the way to Birmingham with the spare key, or paying a courier to collect the spare from me and drive it up to Mr PG. :rotfl:
Thankfully at about 6.30 another breakdown guy was sent who took pity on him and offered to drive Mr PG all the way home despite him being told not to by his bosses. They finally arrived at 10.30pm with the car on the back of the tow truck .
What an evening that was . Think we need to stear clear of cars and keys for a while !! xxLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Quick update from the last week as it was a pretty busy one with lots of news.
DD1 had her first Uni Interview and was offered an unconditional place on the spot  She was totally over the moon !
The same evening, she heard back from another Uni that she had got through the first stage of their interview process after submitting an online portfolio and was invited to an interview with them also.
DD2 discovered that she had made it through to the finals of a singing Competition that she had entered.
We had an offer on Mum and Dads house, so that is now sold subject to contract. Need to crack on with the clearing out now and entering into battle with the Equity Release Company, shoudl be fun
To top off the week DD1 passed her Driving Test at the Weekend :T I don't think I have ever seen someone so excited ..... ever ! :rotfl:
Interview number two is tomorrow, we are off to Bath...... Im driving !!!
Sold a few items on Bay of E, so added a nice £60 to the Savings pots and a cheque was also written to a Charity after selling a few of DMs bits and bobs.
So all in all it was a very good week, lets hope this week goes the same way !
Hope you are all well.

No need to apologise - one, you had already replied and two, you've got a lot going on at the moment.
Just read on - have a safe drive over to Bath tomorrow. It's a lovely city and if it's Bath Uni you're heading to, from what I've seen its a lovely campus. A bit out of town though. Xx0 -

Oh god that's even worse. I did reply and then couldn't find my response, how embarrassing :rotfl: !! My head must be well and truly in the clouds
Yes I love Bath as well. Mr PG used to live there back in the day.
We are looking forward to our visit tomorrow, we did visit for the Open Day but I honestly cant remember how far out of town it was if I'm honest. We will find out tomorrow. xxLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Just catching up..enjoy Bath - agree its lovely but hilly so if DD1 goes there she should save money on gym membership if she simply walks or cycles everywhere!
Glad you got the offer...but clearing houses is never fun. Best of luck with that and make sure you rope in everyone to help
