:o:o:o:o Trouble was I thought I had done it again last.

Had parents evening for DD2, was there for two hours and once more lost my keys. This time I really panicked, knowing that had I done the same thing again, it was pretty unlikely that the car woudl still be there this time !

Thankfully we found them, in DD2s backpack instead of my handbag. I have no idea how they got there ! :o

Pinot, I have followed your progress and marvelled at your fighting spirit for four years now. I hope you can find the strength to try and get to the bottom of your mum's healthcare fees and the equity release interest. It will be stressful and maybe distressing in parts, but I'm sure your parents would have wanted you to benefit from any 'upside'. As Brizzle says, there's no guarantee of success but I suspect it goes against your very nature NOT to check into things a bit :)

Good work with the keys! :rotfl:

  • Hello ladies ,

My...... what a week, I honestly don't know where its disappeared too. Am looking forward to Mr PG coming home tonight for the weekend and a chance to sit down and chill a little perhaps.

Its been Mock week here for DD1, coupled with trying to prepare her Portfolio for her Uni interview, problems with the "Outlaws" , poorly people and lord knows what else. I'm exhausted and I look it as well ! To prove my point, DD1 went to the doctors yesterday, the Doctor looked at her surname and said " Hmm I know the PG Family , I saw your Nan last week didn't I ?:eek: " That would be me then !! DD1 didn't have the heart to tell him that he most definately didn't see her Nan who is now with the Great Big Man in the Sky and that it was her Mum he saw, but she did find the whole incident very amusing ! :rotfl:

Work has been good though, so I shouldn't complain and I have managed to claw back a few pennies here and there on Bay of E sales and also some cashback that was accruing. This has all gone to the Emergency / Rainy Day Fund for now so that is looking nice and healthy.

We have a few birthdays this week so I will need to make a few spends here and there that I woudl prefer not to do.

I have spent some time looking at the PG National Debt including the Mortgage. I really need to kick that into touch as well. We have 14 years left, but £100K is on Interest Only and the Endowment which some of you may remember was used to clear debts which then accumulated again, so we have no way of paying that off other than selling the house. I need a plan for this , to pay mortgage off quicker and then tackle the remaining £100K which we cant currently afford to put onto a repayment .

If I can make F&Fs over the next few months to three of the remaining predators which I hope to do, and then free up that money, I can then throw that at the remaining predator / or the mortgage as an overpayment. All hypothetical, but I like to have a plan.

Mrs B, I need to confess that I spectacularly fell off the Dry January wagon last night. :o Had had a grotty and very stressy day and the glass of water just wasn't cutting it !

Hope you have all had a lovely week, this is the first time I have logged on so I haven't caught up with anyone I'm really sorry xxx

  • Happy, lovely to see you. You know me too well as you have hit the nail on the head exactly. It does go against my Nature to NOT check things out. I really cant let this lie.

I have found the guidelines for the framework for Fa$t Tr@ck C0ntinuing H£@lthcare which we were told she would receive when she was in hospital but then they changed their mind after a meeting as she had more than two weeks to live. The hospital told us she was only entitled to this Fast Track Pathway if she had a prognosis of one or two weeks. She was given 12. Obviously we had no knowledge or experience of this and knew no better. We had no time to check it out as we needed to find somewhere for her to live and quickly as Social Services were on our back and the places they expected her to go to were horrendous. She needed to be cared for in nice surroundings for the last few weeks of her life and we needed to move her there quickly as she was going stir crazy in hospital. She wanted to go home, she could only go home with 24 hour care, I was quoted £8500 per month for this !!:eek:

Anyway without boring you to tears, the guidelines state the following - " He or she has a rapidly deteriorating condition and is entering a terminal phase . For the purposes of fast track eligibility this constitutes a primary healthcare need. No other test is required. The person will require continuing healthcare funding to enable their needs to be met urgently eg to enable them to go home to die or to provide appropriate end of life support to be put in place either in their own home or a care setting "

It goes on to say " the completed tool should be supported by a prognosis, if available but strict time limits basing eligibility on an individual being considered to have a specified expected length of life remaining should not be imposed " ( the hospital said she wasn't entitled as she had more than two weeks to live so cancelled all meetings and also occupational therapy and physio stepped away and we were left only with social services who actually said she could go home alone with care twice a day only which was ridiculous)

" the purpose of the fast track tool is to ensure that individuals with a rapidly deteriorating condition, which may be entering a terminal phase are supported in their preferred place of care as quickly as possible"

Sorry to ramble on, but this has made me so angry. In my opinion this is a no brainer. Instead she didn't even have an occupational therapist, no care plan, not even a wheelchair, she couldn't walk, I had to hire a chair from the red cross that was too small for her so that she could leave hospital, I wasnt supposed ot take that to a Care Home as was against the Red Cross rules but I had no option ,she was receiving palliative radiotherapy , she had no funding, no support, absolutely nothing. Yet she had a Terminal Diagnosis, was deteriorating by the day and 12 week prognosis. We saw her Consultant one more time after her five sessions of Radiotherapy who although made a follow up appointment made it very clear that is was procedure only, but there was no way that she would ever make it to that appointment.

I have requested hospital notes and those from two GP surgeries, we found out the day before she passed away that her new doctor ( as lovely as he was with her ) didn't ever receive her notes so it appears they were working by what we were telling them .

Sorry for the ramble, but it would be really interesting to hear your thoughts, is this just me, or does it ( on the small amount you all know) seem that she was severely let down ? They finally came and done a Financial assessment one month after she died. We received the small amount they gave her in a refund cheque last week, but another department is now saying that she actually owes them money and they want it back ! I don't claim to know much about this system it seems to be a minefield, but reading those guidelines it seems to me that she should have received Fast Track Care and Funding and Social Services, Financial Assessments etc etc shouldn't even have taken place or been needed.

Thankyou for listening, I think I needed to write this all down and let off steam :o:o

I wish you the absolute best with your investigation my dear Pinot :) !!

As you say.....a 'no-brainer.' With the levels of incompetence we find in the most important places, it is sometimes impossible to understand how the world keeps turning.

    Keep us updated.

Another chorus of 'it's not in your head' from me too.
I appreciate that it looks knotty, not to say downright twisted in parts, but it does seem that what has happened to date is far from adequate. Wish I could impart some useful knowledge or experience but have none on this subject. I can only suggest that the power of the press, or at least the threat of it, may help you up the ante.
