when they were toddlers we spent hours in the garden raking, then running through them in wellies rustling them, collecting them, making collages etc.
DD has a notebook she sticks pictures she like in, and collects quotes in (very useful as a English lit student) :-)

DD2 is quote crazy ! She has a little notebook she carries everywhere and writes them down in her book when she sees them !
I have one of those colouring books, as do the girls. I also brought them tiny pocket size ones that they take to school and college and hide in the corner and colour when things get a bit intense. I think they are fantastic !

Ooh I do that too Dolphin !! I love squelching through the mud as well:o. Mr PG hates that, the girls and I think he has a Mud Phobia ! I always encouraged the girls to get messy and muddy when they were little, DD2 still does at every given opportunity and Mr PG found it very very stressful.
