Why do folks insist on fixing things that aint broke

Clicking a link to open a link to open a competition is going to add time on to our comping which means less sleep than I already get

Folks who do not do rafflecopter/daily mags ect do not do them by choice, if they did want to do them then all they had to do was visit the specific thread.

I think the majority is being forced to change for the minority with these changes :(

Sorry to go on, and I do appreciate JDP's hard work immensely, but nobody has come up with any reason why the links in the new mags thread can't go straight to the comps, so please can they do so as soon as possible? We are talking about literally thousands of extra clicks and much wasted time for no one's benefit as things stand.

hi, they used to all be posted that way before the trial with the other way,
first on main board, then the main board link added to dailies so the link from the dailies (for those who just follow the daily lists) will lead to the comp on the main board,
so jambo is doing them same as they've always been done before the trial,

all the daily/weekly/monthly/once only etc are posted the same way, etc

Daily competition thread - updated daily

    WEEKLY COMPETITION POSTS: Updated Regularly

    RaffleCopter Daily Competition thread

ONCEONLY entry COMPETITIONS - enter early & ongoing - Updated Regularly

Thanks, I know they did. However, posting direct links in the list in the mags thread is a vast improvement, saves lots of time and does not have any impact on the comps being posted on the main board as requested.

If we go back to linking from mags thred to main board threads, it basically doubles the clicks and time to do the mag dailies, which is not insignificant when some of us do 200-300 every day!

If there is a good reason why it is better to have links to the threads from the mags thread rather than direct to the comps, fair enough, but nobody has posted one and nobody, to my knowledge, ever objected to the direct links in the mags thread. The concern was very much to have all comps on the main board, which this would not affect.

I think the whole point has been missed here, and there seems to have been a "using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut" type of reaction.
The objection of some forum users was not that all the mag dailies were in their own thread; it was that some big competitions for large prizes had been only posted in the mag thread and not on the main board, therefore not giving those who only use the main board a chance to enter them. This was further complicated by the fact that those big competitions did not appear directly on the magazines' lists of prize draws, they could only be found in the mag thread.

Surely to goodness everybody knows that there was a perfectly well functioning mag thread, which had been running brilliantly these past few months thanks to the hard work of a few dedicated forumites. If people choose not to enter mag dailies, then that's up to them - I don't believe anyone needs their hand holding and competitions spelled out to them. I for one don't use the standard daily thread much, nor the weekly thread ever, so I accept there are competitions I miss out on. That's my choice.

Surely the obvious answer to this conundrum was to just make a point of posting the EXTRA competitions on the main board, with a link to the daily thread, i.e. those ones that appeared in Chat and Pickmeup magazines but not on the mag list of draws. That way, people's attention would be drawn to them, nobody would have missed out, but there would be no need to have all this duplication of effort with comps going on both main board and mag thread. I already dread Tuesday morning, logging on and seeing seven individual posts for each new prize offered. There's just no need to take this massive step backwards, and the irony is, the people who it was meant to please, don't really want it either! Nobody is benefitting I don't think. I urge the BGs to reconsider this after Christmas, please!

I couldn't have said it better myself cagsd :T

On reflection (of a few days) I can see what Toniq was trying to do. Her intentions were well meant even if the method used was rather provocative; it was aimed to make those higher value xmas comps visible to all. The problem is the subjective nature of what is 'high value' to everyone (the answer is entirely subjective), but large money comps I'm sure appeal to all. This issue will continue to be debated I am sure!

On a personal note,TBH, from using the mag dailies thread run so ably by Cornish (and others) on a daily basis, the new thread is pretty much redundant for me. I see what appears on the main forum, mark it with X (so I don't have to open it but know I've 'seen' it - feel bad not to give 'thanks' but I've 'adapted' and that's how this works for me) and then refer to each mag saved in my own bookmarks. That way I don't have to bother with the 'click a link' to 'click a link' issue. Should I really need to check back for an individual 'answer' then I could check the thread. HTH

I also hope BGs revisit this issue in the new year, as it seems lots of extra (unnecessary?) work has been caused for those few involved in the 'new' thread as a result of this debacle.

    Happy comping everyone! :D

  • I have even offered to post daily updates to the main board. What is critical and urgent is getting the direct links to the mags back on the mags thread.

    Please take a bow cagds!
That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free ;)
  • I know I haven't been a member long but I loved the mag dailies thread. I could open up 10 tabs a time, enter and be done within half an hour/ 45 mins. I went directly to the sites yesterday as I noticed the thread had gone and it took me an absolute age- I also couldn't find a lot of the comps I had previously entered. I do agree that it seems to be making it harder and a step backwards.
