Tesco had the phones branded as they pay subsidy to sell the phones so cheap.Due to subsidy they lock the phones to Tesco and put on a Tesco mobile brand.
If you return a faulty phone it is checked for branding and any software modifications.

I read on HUKD, that it voids the Tesco warranty but you still have the Motorola one.

That is my understanding of the situation.

BigDebtBoy, had you considered Ovivo mobile? I've got this for my 2 teenagers. The Freedom 0 Plan comes with 200 mins, 300 texts and 500Mb data. You pay£20 for the SIM and they give you £15 credit. That's it then, you don't ever pay any more unless you use more than your monthly allowance and then anything over comes out of your credit. If that isn't enough of an allowance there are other options. You "pay" by having to watch about 10 seconds of advert when you first open your browser (not Facebook, Twitter etc.) but it's not too intrusive. It's been ideal for me as I know they can't run up a high bill. You can transfer your number over and they give you £3 credit to do so. You also get £3 credit if you recommend somebody (not why I'm writing this!)

Might help if you need a cheap/free contract.

Can I use a PAC code from Orange in order to keep number if I get an Ovivo SIM? Thanks
  • Been waiting for an email for a number of days, rapidly going off TESCO!!

They were in again @ 08:20 Sat
    got one finally !
edit: thats the 16GB one I mean but 8GB are there too- but I only got the tesco alert email on the 16gb one
  • I see it now, thanks Bob, though they never sent me an email!

So my current phone number is easy to transfer to this phone, do I need to tell orange or what happens, I have a PAC number? I've been with them for about 12 years, so don't know the protocol!

They seem to have gone up in price. The 8GB is now £129 and the 16GB is £149

Edit. Above price is for the unlocked sim free phone. Seems like I'll have to get up earlier in order to buy one of these.

The locked to Tesco are in stock and I have finally managed to order one but it wouldn't accept the TDX-7DXM code as I'm not classed as a new customer and In my exitement I forgot to use the double points coupon. Still if its good I'll be buying another one for my Son.
  • And....for my old phone is it automatically unlocked to use another sim, have had it more than 24 mth contract? Thanks
