BigDebtBoy, had you considered Ovivo mobile? I've got this for my 2 teenagers. The Freedom 0 Plan comes with 200 mins, 300 texts and 500Mb data. You pay£20 for the SIM and they give you £15 credit. That's it then, you don't ever pay any more unless you use more than your monthly allowance and then anything over comes out of your credit. If that isn't enough of an allowance there are other options. You "pay" by having to watch about 10 seconds of advert when you first open your browser (not Facebook, Twitter etc.) but it's not too intrusive. It's been ideal for me as I know they can't run up a high bill. You can transfer your number over and they give you £3 credit to do so. You also get £3 credit if you recommend somebody (not why I'm writing this!)

Might help if you need a cheap/free contract.

I reckon Tesco have a HUGE warehouse full of these phones and are drip feeding them onto their site in order to direct traffic their way in the busy Xmas run up. I suppose these are like supermarket loss leaders, sold at less than cost to attract customers who go on to purchase other items.

I have ordered this for my son. In fact I have a PAYG phone so might try it out for myself too.

Nope. It's done the same way as if Tesco Mobile had unlocked it.
