Dd slept in with me last night as I wasn't well enough to sit in her room! Not sure who fell asleep first, but I suspect it was me...
It struck me yesterday how chuffed I was by some simple things: finding 5p roadkill - a shiny silver piece of treasure. Dd and I have started putting our roadkill in a smal clear bottle and will spend it next Cmas - or before if it gets full. Also, on the return from the Post Office, I came across a trail of rubber bands dropped by the postman. So I duly picked them up, hoping that he hadn't left them as a trail to find his way home.... And a charity shop bargain made me very happy as I'm sure dd will love it. I also sent off a bunny to someone who doesn't know I've done it - hee hee!
This morning, dd and I plan to hit the D1sney Store as it opens - she wants to use their 'magic postbox' to send a letter to santa, asking for blu blu. Then we'll scoot along to get my glasses, and then zoom off to dance classes. That takes us to lunchtime, by which point I shall probably drop! Must remember to take water and tissues...NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Dd and I were at the dis store before it opened. Phew! She wrote her letter to Santa and posted itin their magic post box. Blu blu is still there and an Alice in W'land doll appeared too. My lovely dd had to think very hard what else to write after blu blu, and went round the store for ideas.
Then on to spocksavers who are seriously unimpressing me at the mo. Yes, they had put the lenses in my shades. But they had put the OLD prescription in. TWONKS ! A very decent chap was dealing with me and should be sorting it out... Thank heavens it isn't summer, when I NEED shades. So a big ya boo hiss to spocksavers.
The carousel was in the high street so I said dd could go on, but we would then have to run back to the car to get to dance. £2 spent, but worth every penny as she had a super long ride. We were only 5 mins late to dance, and the classes were running a little late so we missed nowt - phew.
We are now home, fed and watered. I am super cold, but dd seems ok, so it must be the lurgi.
I shall hang the washing up, do the washing up and drink a coffee, then get dd to finish her party invitations. We are rocking it here in the apple house today!
Oooh, the cheques have gone through, so have been removed off the mortgage. Maybe the pipedream will happen...NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
After some consideration about trying to stay up until grown-up bedtime, I went to bed with dd again last night and slept soundly untill 7ish. But am still lurgified.
Today we shall go to kids klub - the last full one for the year. Also to do: dismantle the card play shed to create floor space; possibly bring in a tree (requires moving climbing frame and manoeuvring a very heavy pot by myself, so may postpone until am improved); write 3 cards (there are more to do, but I might just manage 3!); get dd to sort out the mountain of toys under her bed.
Must also check my school bag and do a little marking.
Time to get breakfasts - yum!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
We did not make kids klub. In fact, dd was in her jamas until 3.45pm, when we popped up to the nearby park. It did us both good to get out and get some fresh air.
Dd's playhouse got dismantled but the tree it made room for is still oitside. Several cards were written and 2 have been popped into the little red box already. The mountain of toys under dd's bed has been sorted a little - unfortunately no culling this time. But some rubbish she was holding on to has been recycled.
And we have done the party invitations :j. All printed out and enveloped up. Dd has decided she'd like me to hand them out when I pick her up in the week - to save being challenged by children not invited. The pickles of being 6!
So, today is another NSD. And a quiet relaxing day. Shame I have to go to work tomorrow!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
NSD number 9 for December! Go me! :T
Work poddled on in a genteel manner (mostly), probably due to my lethargy, but credit must also go to my lovely students. Hopefully, more of the same tomorrow...
Food isn't going well - too many sweeties. Where has Mr Will Power scarpered off to?!?
Last night I stayed up longer than dd :T. By all of 10 minutes! Probably the same tonight.
Am thoroughly enjoying reading the 'Not Buying It 2015 - a consumer holiday' thread. Am at the point where they are talking about not using supermarkets at all in Jan. Impossible here, as the nearby shops only contain aldee, sains, all else being non-food. A greengrocer? 4 miles. A fishmonger? 6. A butcher? 4 miles. Hmmm. One challenge to be a fervent supporter for, from the sidelines, methinks.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Yes, I'm enjoying Not Buying It as well.
As with all things, certain compromises have to be made - for some people distance and time constraints means it's impossible not to use the supermarkets.
I am looking forward to checking out a local farm shop and a good local butcher, both within 10 minutes walk, but most of my shopping will be done in supermarkets.
I agree with the ethos of the thread, but I will still be buying in the major chains if I need to. Tomorrow, I intend to go to M&S to buy a new pair of jeans, and it's not even a sale or a 20% off day:eek:
But it'd be really nice to get a pair of new jeans for my holiday on Saturday!
I noticed you'd started a selling challenge. That's an interesting one as well. Although I sell my stuff and stuff on behalf of a friend on eBay I've never kept a running total of the amount raised.
Hmmm, I might join you on that challengeEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Hello Goldie! Hope you find some good jeans... I went to m&s last week and they lady was most persuasive about their card. She did let me take the paperwork away, but I've recycled it! I spent £33 there, but it was knickers, 2 bras, and tights for dd. I was shocked at the total - no doubt primarni would have been cheaper, but I couldn't face it.
So today is my last working day of term :j. Phew! Dd goes on until Friday. My NSD tally stands at 10, which is rather pleasing. And I've paid another £20 to the Elsa fund.
Tomorrow is shaping up to be busy:
- 8am dd to cheerleading
- nip up to aldee for a quick shop - under £20 please
- back to dd's school for a 9.05 cheerleading assembly
- on to my school for end of term assembly and fun?
- back to dd's school for a 2.10pm nativity then school run
- possibly pay money in to bank and pop to PO and ch shops...?NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Soooo, dropped dd off for 8am, scooted home and drove up to aldee. Went round the shop very briskly and spent £22.67. A frivolous £1.58 on two packs of greaseproof paper, as I've been looking for it for weeeeeeks. And a rather naughty £4.60 on choc. It's with a view to using 3/4 of what I bought to make an after-eight tasting choc (gonna melt a mix of milk and 70% choc, maybe a bar of mint choc too, or essence, add a glug of cream, add battered extra strong mints, pour into flat moulds), but I needed to buy because I ATE THE LAST LOT - oopsie!
Dd's cheerleading display was lovely. They'd got them all wearing their PE kit - shame that all the y2s' tops were filthy from their PE lessons!
Then it was up to drop a bag in at the Sally Army and scoot round the ch shops. Got a basket, scarf, book for dad, book for me, tiny dollies fordd, lovely sm notebook, Cmas pegs, dance shoes, pillowcase(for bunnies) and 2 crafting magazines. For £9.90.
Monies got paid into the bank and parcels and letters got posted.
My aim is to not use the car tomorrow, and to mooch around the house! Maybe get the tree in...
Last night I went through 4 drawers of leaflets, and moved 80% into the recyc. Very satisfying! If only I found it that easy to get rid of books....
Still enjoying the Not Buying It thread. It turned political and then tit-for-tat with opinions and arguments for a bit, but seems to have gotten beyond that. The Preparing for Winter iv and v got like that and I unsubscribed as reading them was bothering me. Oh, I must be a sensitive soul...:rotfl:!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Time to get a cushion and settle down on the naughty step... But let's consider the good first: I have walked nearly 5 miles instead of using the bus; paid in another £21 of coins; given the donation to the Sally Army.
The not quite so good: purchases in the SA shop totalling £7+. I was only in there yesterday, and bought nothing! So, a quality white work shirt for me, some pink jeans for dd, 5mini choc/sweet molds (10p each), some cotton yarn, tiny dollies for dd, a big pink skirt for fabric, a big pink cardi for unravelling.
Dd's jumper is so nearly finished, only needing to be sewn up. A wash is on, and I may just get the tree in, to surprise dd!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
