So, I decided yesterday (or maybe this morning!!) in the end that I would not approach the Head about one day a week teaching. I need to be totally free of the place.
Turns out that today he told my French teaching colleague (who will also be leaving at the end of the school year) that he is looking for a full timer.
    Sorts that out!
He also told the staff in this morning's briefing that I'm going, so it's common knowledge now - at least among the big people.
Pip has benefitted from a day at home and I've told them that they are not going in tomorrow either. And prob only on Weds for an already scheduled meeting with Pip, me and their HOY at lunchtime. Pip currently is thinking they'll also do Weds morning and then come home with me after the meeting... we'll see...
13 weeks left at school, so approx 28 days, due to a couple of extra days in there. Cue 'I want to break free-ee!' going round my head B)
I have achieved a sugar free day if it counts as such having allowed myself 85% choc...

  • Glad you reached a decision, and that news is out in the open! Is your signature due a tidy up as part of the celebrations?
  • I think you've made the right decision apple. It sounds like you enjoy the job of teaching itself, hence the pull of remaining with the littles. But the two things that make the job hard - certain people and the lack of flexibility when Pip needs you - won't be improved by you staying put even if it just one day a week.

It's very scary quitting with nothing to go to, but you're now mortgage free, and you and DH are sensible with your costs so it's not as if you're about to blow all your money on big holidays several times a year etc. You've got other plans to bring in some income that will let you focus on Pip, committing to one day a week for another 12 months would make some of that more difficult. Don't let the comfort of the familiar pull you back when the actual "comfort" isn't really there, it's just the familiar and it's not always helpful :)

VintageHistorian has put it so well!  A day a week at that place would let all the old sores and problems just fester on.  Awful.  You're well rid of it - any new place will still have its own problems, and that applies even to self employment if you choose it, of course, but in a new environment you can set proper boundaries, and work at keeping them.

I am very glad to know I'm going to be free! I've had some lovely comments from colleagues 🥰.
A long day. But a rather good one. Things do seem to be coming together for the trip and also for the french breakfast next week. The parents eve was lovely. But my french colleague didn't turn up, so I was talking to some parents whose child I see once a fortnight! They were all very understanding. Then I went to wait for pip to finish their Tuesday youth group. So, all in all, it's been a long ol' day.

4 school days, 1 day trip to France.
My job has been advertised on the school website, so you have to go hunting to find it 🤣🤣🤣. I guess that means I can casually drop it into conversation with the kids... Not that I'm planning to do that just yet...
