August so far can be summed up very simply: one week of camping/kitchen stuff, one week of covid and one week in N Shields. A very simple month, living out of a case, eating simply. Quite therapeutic.

Very much looking forward to going home tomorrow. Not looking forward quite so much to the forecast heavy rain that's due when we're walking to /between stations....

Eeeh, but I'm pleased to be home. The journey all went super smoothly.

I went straight out to pick all the ripe raspberries - there were plenty of them!

And pip has gone out to one of their youth groups!

I have phoned my union. Spoke to a lovely chap who validated me and my situation. The bottom line is that I am at the mercy (discretion?) of the Head. And if he decides that my days cannot change then he is a cold person and why on earth would I want to work there? The newcomer should work around me, not the other way around. It does feel personal - and that was also validated, as the thought must have come from somewhere.

So I'm writing to the dep head (again) rather strongly (for me!) requesting a resolution by the end of the week - we start back next weds, and this has been hanging over me all holiday...

Pip and I need to go to the Portrait Gallery today but pip had a shocking night and has only just surfaced. We'll have a late breakfast and head up there after. It's a non-negotiable as far as pip is concerned even though they are so rough today.

Have been in to work to see the gcse results and I'm very happy for my pupils. Some very very pleasing results.

Also got asked by dep head how I was. I replied that I need an answer about my days. She said she'd talk to x (which is what she said in her email on Sun). I replied with 'why is another teacher deciding which days I work?' At which point I got the palm of a hand.

I think I'll treat the next 4 months as if it's a temping job...

I'm glad the results are good, but even more glad that you're respecting the work you put in: temping job attitude sounds good.

And that's what it'll have to be! Just read an email saying that the dep head has spoken to the new teacher and they can only do Mon, Tues, Weds. So my days are Thurs + Fri. Gutted.

Now I know what I'm dealing with.

Have had an excellent conversation with big sis. It has clarified what was a muddle of anxiety into its separate constituents and enabled me to consider them more objectively.

And, most importantly, I can /will still take time off if pip needs me, as was the case last year. In fact, as has been the case since they were born.

The other teacher is not my concern/problem. We should coincide on the first training day, as we've always been told they are a three line whip (3 days), so I'll be there. But obviously,as they cannot work a th/Fri, they won't be there for the next 2 days. So we need to get together on that Weds and divvy up the units to study. Then get on with it.
