Those lidl boxes sounds fab if you can get one. Great steps too and it sounds like you're forming some great habits. You also have my sympathies re: noisy neighbours especially as I think home entertaining is likely going to become the new norm.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!1

I really really really hope that 'they' will do away with wearing face masks for secondary pupils. It so impedes communication in the classroom, as if the kids haven't had enough to deal with... All the testing in schools has surely shown that teens are not secret carriers of the virus, despite sitting closer than 1-2m to each other for up to an hour...Today, we skipped church as, for once, neither dh nor I were on duty. I walked up to our shops in pursuit of some bamboo poles, and came away with a pack of ten 3m ones!!! Then I stopped at the flowers and plants man and spent around £25 on plants ( for my bday). Chives, rosemary, thyme, 3x tomato, 2x pepper, sweet pea, sweetcorn. Walking home with the canes on my shoulder and the plants all in a bag that I hoped wouldn't split was fun! But the weather was super warm and sunny, and I have planted up all but 2 of the pots. Just before some rain came and forced me to quickly get in the washing. Now watching aeronauts. So far, so good.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!2

Sounds lovely! Well done you - have you heard the rumour that all secondary kids might be offered the vaxx before school restarts in August?

Not heard that one, f0xh0les. I like the idea, but just imagine the chaos that it would bring as regards summer hols if people have booked to go away... And if it was a double jab, like the rest of us, then they need to be around twice!

They are talking about an inhaley version like the flu up-the-nose-job they offer. At least that is the latest rumour.

It was based on this in January, and last week one of the govt's Ministry of Muppets just casually threw it out there during an ' Of course Boris paid for his wallpaper' interviews on Radio 4 on the school run. It made my ears !!!!!! up.

Ooh, thanks. Makes me wonder why they haven't pursued this means of vaxxing... Maybe because it's cheaper? So someone somewhere who has the contract for all the syringes, etc, would lose a lot of money...

Syringes don't cost much so it may not be a cost issue. If it was still being tested on animals back in January then it's probable that human trials won't have been carried out to the extent that the results would be considered reliable or safe. They might also be struggling to recruit enough volunteers for human trials as they may need unvaccinated people in order to properly measure the immune response and any potential side effects. Most people want to be vaccinated ASAP and won't want to wait months for trials of a vaccine (that may not be as effective) if it delays them being able to get back out into society.
Sadly now that we've managed to get several vaccines the urgency has worn off and governments and funding bodies will be less keen to throw a lot of money at the issue. They'll be more focused on whether the existing solution can be tweaked to fight off variants, rather than tweaking it to be given up your nose (although frankly I hate needles so I'd much rather have a nose version)."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.
