Today's first mission for dd and I was to take a train and go for a walk to find one of the homeless men we see when we go to see mum together. We were pleased to find them and give them their gifts.
And the 2nd mission was for dd to find a present for dh from her. Lastminute.com child! She found a copy of all 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories in a ch shop. Result.
Dh acquired a turkey crown after they were half price in aldee. So it is his job to cook it!
We have talked to step dd1 in Canada, which was nice. The others will be in the early hours of their cmas day already, in Oz, so we'll try to catch them later.
I have nearly finished experimental teddy. Attaching the head has been a pickle, going on backwards once... But it's not too bad a first attempt, esp as I have done it by dissecting another teddy and using the subsequent 21 parts as a 'pattern'. I'm glad to have done one, as I already have another 3 cut out!
I still got up early this morning for headspace and a workout + shoulder exercises. Smug face was on.
Dh opened a tub of chocs that he was given from work, and we agreed to open it, have 5, and put the lid on. Much better than gorging on them. The other day, I realised that I felt not only stumpy (will never be tall and willowy!) But also frumpy, dumpy, lumpy and bumpy. Sigh. In fact, the only -umpy I didn't feel was grumpy! So I need to be careful not to sit around overmuch over the next fortnight...

Happy St Stephen's day! Or the Feast of Stephen, as good ol' King Wenceslas said.
We have had a lovely Chrismas. Dd slept poorly the night before (she has since come down with a cold, so I assume it wa that) and ended up sleeping on our floor! I still got up early and did headspace and quiet stuff before dragging her awake at about 7.30. She enjoyed opening a few gifts - the ones from other people - before we toddled off to church.
Lunch was yummy, esp as dh cooked it all. Then we opened the rest of our presents. We were well and truly spoilt by the kids (dh's kids) and have managed to talk to 2/3 of them, which has been great. one is 9 hours behind and the others are 11 hours ahead.
And last night was even worse! I felt dd touch my face at about midnight, so she came in to bed and slept on my arm - she was well chilly, so I don't know how long she'd been standing there. After a while, it dawned on me that it wasn't 6am and that I was not going to get to sleep like that. So I half woke her and rolled her over me so that I could get out of bed, and I headed for the spare room at about 2.30am. I was just drifting off to sleep when dh came in and told me to go back to bed and that he'd sleep in the spare room., He was not to be argued with - though I felt like crying, I was so tired - so off I went. To the bed with a snoring child who has perfected her duvet-thieving skills... I lasted until 8.50, so I guess I had some half-decent sleep in there.
We've been out for a walk in the woods today, which was refreshing, coming home via the playground.
Dd is definitely full of cold and off her food. But has enough energy to go out the back and play, which is good. Tomorrow she and I head up to bham as she really wants to see her gma. I think that the real draw is that the hotel has a pool. I think that the trains should be ok...
I read recently about an instagrammer (sp?) who had committed to 30 days of 30: 30 days of doing 30 mins of exercise each day. And I thought that it sounded like 'a good thing to do'. Therefore, let me say that today we strolled along for about 45 mins; I did a warm up + workout + shoulder ex + 2 mins of burpees (15) + a cool down which all added up to over 30 mins. :TNST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Hope DD feels better soon and that you get a better night's sleep tonight xx
Glad you aldee turkey wasn't one of the 'off' ones which have been in the news (looks like several supermarkets were affected)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Thanks greent. Dd ate a huge tea (for her) and has perked up. I have arranged to cook her tea at a friend's house tomorrow, so she'll get a hot meal.
I didn't know about the turkeys. Phew!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
We had a full night's sleep :j.
And a smooth journey up to bham. We were chuffed to get seats on the glasgow train - there were lots of people with humungous suitcases, too big for the racks, so they put them on seats!
We saw mum and cheered her up. Also popped to some ch shops and I found a great Fantastic Beasts book for dd for her bday.
We have been for a little swim in the pool - which fair wore us out. And then walked to friend's house to cook tea and eat there, so we had a good natter too. The walk back was much more energised- and downhill too.
And now we are ensconsed in the hotel room. Dd is reading and WSM is on the telly. We found a heater in the wardrobe which was brill, as dd describes the room as 'freezing'!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

Just overnight, karma. That's all I tend to do. It usually includes a couple of short visits to mum and a visit to an old friend where mum used to live. I don't 'do' anything when here - nowt sightseer-y. Last time I went to see my childhood home + the changes wrought on it. Another time I really would like to go and see the place where we lived for just 6 months before moving in to the childhood home. And when I'm next in M'chester, I'm defo going to visit my early childhood home.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

It's a long ol' trek from Glasgow to Lunnon town!
Dd talks about feeling a tad flat after cmas. We watched a prog about Victorian bakers, and may try to do some '12 days of cmas' things next year. Or even this year if I can get my act together. If nothing else, we may make our own 12th night cake. Yum!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
