Thank you, all you lovely people, posting such wonderful mesages.

The coroner called today so we finally have a cause of death: ischaemic heart disease. The same result as a heart attack but with no chest pain. So dad was not aware of it and it was quick. Am so relieved.

Dd has gone to bed in a vest, jama trousers, long-sleeved jama top and thick winter socks. She has a fleece blanket immediately over her, then her duvet. That is more than in the depths of winter!

One of her close friends went off on holiday for the rest of the holidays this afternoon, and I'm travelling back to mum's tomorrow. So she is feeling a double whammy of sadness.

The funeral should be towards the end of next week and after that we start to work things out for mum's op on Sept 5th. And the subsequent radiotherapy and tablets...

Thank you for yet more lovely messages x

My lovely friend travelled up with me to mum's, and she and I have spent the last 2 days starting the sorting out of the 'back room'. The room where dad lived for the last 3 and a half years, following his 3rd hip replacement and having to stay downstairs.

We have filled about 25 binbag-sized sacks with paper to recycle and a further 3 with textiles, but 'only' 3 of rubbish. Needless to say, dad was unable to throw anything away.

That is the first level of sorting done - the one that is possibly the easiest. And just one room...

My sister has gone to visit some friends for the weekend with her dh. I think she is near breaking point as she has been the one organising things, and mum's forgetfulness is very hard to deal with, especially when she seems to forget a whole discussion and decision, and it all goes back to square one. Several times.

The same sister is trying to send me home again on sunday. I'm not budging from here! Dh will come up with dd, possibly on Tuesday. And if big sis will insist on being the one holding all the reins, then the least I can do is to keep sorting the house.

Have just finished eating a tin of rice pudding. It was 'light' so doesn't count...

Super tired,so off to bed. Nighty night.

Took friend to the station this morning. She did so much while she was here, and boosted us all.

I have sorted through 4 of the boxes we brought back here, and have filled almost 3 of them with papers that I think can go.

Any ideas / knowledge about how far back I need to keep banking statements? I can go back to around 2009 so far, if required... but would rather not have to go through yesterday's 25 sacks again...

I wish I could take away mum's hurt.

Apple - I really can't see why you'd need to go back further than that. I've always managed to deal with deceased accounts with no more than a year's worth. The very worst case scenario the bank could provide copies if you really needed them (I can't think why you'd need to go back that far) Even with tax records you only need 6 or 7 plus the current year at most x

  • Hi Apple, it's hard going and tread carefully with your mum. They have a habit of throwing rocks which are hard to avoid and can hurt.

Let me know if you want wheels to do various runs plus burning stuff. I couldn't keep up with the stuff after dad and my sister passed away.

Whilst it is a absolute @rse working through everything? at least you are saying goodbye to your dad and your brain really will benefit.

    Take care, Tilly xxx
