    Do you think that motor vehicle driving habits/safety would be better, worse or the same without Driving Licences and MOTs?

    I think there is a huge problem that many presently licensed road users havent read the highway code in such a long time, they have forgotten whats in it. They forget everyone is on the road has an equal right to be there and are all wanting to go somewhere. People loose their patience in a car.

    As a member of a club i regularly go out of a weekend in group rides. We often cycle in a 2 abreast formation although filing down to single file when required. We often get shouted at by motorists saying "we shouldnt be cycling 2 abreast". Not only does the highway code say you are allowed to cycle 2 abreast, in actual fact, passing 6 cyclists riding in a tight 3x2 formation should be easier to pass than cycling in a 6x1 formation as we are half the length. On many roads its not wide enough to overtake cyclists without going on the otherside of the road when you are single file anyway. Some motorists do think they can push the cyclists to the kerb and squeeze though even when there is traffic coming the other way. Cyclists should never be closer than 50cm to the kerb and when keeping up with the traffic - typically around town, they are entitled to "take the lane" - ie cycle in the middle of the lane.

    Who's actually proposed this?
    Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

    Chris Boardman, I believe, though I think various cycle groups have been suggesting various permutations of lorry bans for some time.

    Cyclists in London are a danger to themselves. They don't realise how vulnerable to injury they are on 2 wheels. They should be more careful.

    I'm not aware of any cyclists being killed by other cyclists but quite a lot are killed by motorists in various vehicles

    Nail on the head Clapton.

    Many cyclists are to blame themselves for their own injuries. They should be more careful.

    You're getting good at this.

    .... Not only does the highway code say you are allowed to cycle 2 abreast, ....

    Actually what the Highway Code says is;

    never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
    ....On many roads its not wide enough to overtake cyclists without going on the otherside of the road when you are single file anyway. .....

    I think that's what the Highway Code means by a "narrow road".
