I love the bbcThe number of cyclists killed so far in crashes in London this year is the same as the figure for the whole of 2012.
Ummm there is less than 10% of 2013 left so it is not that unlikely that the total number of fatalities will end up the same as last year or very close, so why have a line phrased in a manner that suggests that things are much worse this year than last.I think....0 -
If it is true that most cyclist deaths result from rush-hour collisions with lorries, then there are four possible solutions...
1 - provide a dedicated space for cyclists
2 - provide a dedicated space for lorries
3 - ban cyclists during rush-hours
4 - ban lorries during rush-hours
If a car driver tries to sneak up the inside of a truck, then he/she only risks a wing mirror. If a cyclist does the same, then he/she risks death.
Commuters use roads as a way to get to work. For truck-drivers, the roads are their place of work. If a truck-driver were to storm into an office demanding all sorts of priorities, then probably the police would be called.

one could of course try to analysis the specific reasons for accidents in terms of particular black spots or types of situation and try to resolve these.
a general education programme aimed at both motorists and cyclists would be sensible too.
maybe a reduction in speed limits in cities may be a factor
better enforcement of existing laws would be helpful too.0 -

I live close to a commuter station. One day recently, I was out early, and was walking back home amidst the throng of commuters. At one point, we all had to negotiate a family of one adult and two children who were riding on the pavement in the opposite direction to the general flow.
They were fully equipped with helmets etc, and the adult was clearly engaged in some kind of 'safe biking' lesson.
I really wish that I had been wearing a head-cam, so that I could post a video on YouTube.

Well I'll put it to you
How do you teach kids on roads where people are being killed?
I have cycled along the road with my boy on the pavement(5 years old)
its not easy0 -
The people who use them.
In 2012 the UK had 28 road fatalities per million population. France was 56, twice as lethal. Netherlands 39, Germany 44 etc
these people?

So when fatalities rise,its safer?0
