Tesco. What are they up to?

I tried to use my Visa card this morning and it was declined. When I got home I rang Tesco and they said the account had been upgraded to Mastercard. I don't remember a letter arriving telling us that they were upgrading the account. Only problem is I chopped the cards up into little pieces last week. The leaflet with the cards said that you should ring to say that they had been recieved. I didn't bother so I assumed (I know never ever assume) theat they wouldn't activate the cards. I asked for the Visa to be reinstated which they refused, and offered to send me out my new card by Thursday but it would cost £8.80 per card. Anyway now have to wait 7 working days for the new one to arrive.0

Chances are that Tesco have a new contract with mastercard to provide credit cards and probably ditched the services of VISA for this to be happening, If I had a Tesco VISA I would be asking for a lower APR and 0% deals again if they asked me to switch cards. I'd be asking just to try and get something out of them. I dont think it would make much of a difference if you had VISA or mastercard. (but it could be useful if you had both just incase 1 of the kind isnt accepted somewhere.)Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0

My wife had her tesco visa card refused this morning!!!! I did get the master cards but phoned tesco straight away and told them I didn’t want to change so cut the master cards up - that was about a month ago.
Phones tesco today (25 mins on the phone) and guy said that I was now on master card so I explained above. Outcome is the visa will be reinstated but Ill have to wait till Monday. Got a direct dial number for reinstatements though - 01702 271 630. No mention of any costs for reinstating.
Its annoying that the new master card is an opt out option.

Tesco may well have recently ditched Visa & issued Visa cardholders with a Mastercard but they have issued Mastercards for years. I have had my Tesco Mastercard since January 2003. Also, remember that Tesco Personal Finance is run by the Royal Bank osf Scotland who have always issued Mastercards.0 -

Really can't believe this.
We just had to cut our holiday short cos they cancelled our old cards while we were away (apparently we hadn't opted out of mastercard scheme but that was difficult as we hadn't received the information in the first place).
Tesco tried but failed to get our new cards couriered to us on time to continue our holiday so we've come home early. the courier delivered new pin numbers!!!! argh.
They said they couldn't reinstate the old cards as they were closed accounts. I wonder if I was the daughter of some tesco personal finance top dog that things might have happened?!?! You'd have thought the fact that we have 4 young children, including a baby, that they might have been able to flex some power and see us right.
Can I just say that the call centre is very poor. And we as customers pay for it (at least 4p a minute)
Everyone's a 'manager', for a start, but no one has any real authority. I spoke to one 'manager' and he could name about 7 other managers in the call centre that day alone!!!!!0 -
Do I change back to VISA with someone else and pay an annual charge? Can I find someone else that won't pass on the VISA charge to me? Do I go with new master card?
I have no idea whether Visa are charging the banks an annual fee, but you can still get a Visa card that doesn't charge you an annual fee. Examples include
Yorkshire Building Society (pays cashback)
Nationwide (no foreign exchange fee)
Barclaycard
Alliance & Leicester / MBNA
Co-op Bank (beware of short interest-free period on some Co-op cards)

Furious now:mad:
Arrived home – broadband account suspended – set to be paid with my visa! Paid with my switch card so got that working again.
Phoned that number I gave out above to get my visa card reinstated. They asked where I got the number told them it saved me 25 minutes on the phone as they answered almost immediately. They cannot reinstate the card but they will issue a new visa classic card which will take 5 – 10 days to arrive. Oh and they will give me £10 back whoopee.
I’m really mad that they can do this it seems very sharp practice. I would go elsewhere for a card but the club card points is a good deal. I’m going to write and complain and the address I got was Customer Concern, Tesco, Thanet Green, Westcliff on Sea, Essex, S0 0EJ
Is the address correct? Not a good week for Tesco.

They've !!!!ed me off as well. I wanted to do a bal transfer on partner's behalf (he has add. card on my account) and they wouldn't do it on the phone as I hadn't recieved my new card, no probs did it online instead.
On the phone they said the cards were sent out on 23rd August, slightly later than the 20th Aug I was promised when I switched.
Now I'm off to Berlin tomorrow for 3 months for uni and still no bloody cards. So when they turn up as I am the main cardholder I shall have to faff about with Skype to activate them so my partner can use his next month when the BT is over and for when I come home at Xmas. Not impressed!...I like my coffee black, just like my metal!
