Tesco. What are they up to?

There's an option at the bottom of the leaflet to keep it as a VISA card. This is what I have done.0
-
I think another reason for sticking with Visa is that it is accepted in more places worldwide than Mastercard?
That notwithstanding, I object to having such a decision made for me without so much as a by-your-leave, with the onus being put on me to opt out - at my expense.
If you don't phone up, will your existing card remain valid until the expiry date? I'm considering this idea: take no action now, but when you get your new Mastercard just cut it up and continue to use the Visa one instead. Then you can insist on renewing the Visa one when the time comes.
Probably a bit more hassle than just dialling the opt-out number, but it would send to them the message that they can't just muck about with their customers like that.
Don't forget that they must get at least as much value from all that Clubcard data as we do in terms of coupons and the like; if not more so. If enough people cancelled their Tesco card, Clubcard an' all, citing this as the reason, they might realize that it's not in their interests to be so high-handed.0 -
I phoned up last week to ask about opting out but as I was one week past the deadline, they told me that my card had already been ordered and that it was too late to opt out.0
-
I've also had this letter offering an upgrade to Finest Platinum, but my current Tesco card is already a MC so not sure why they're changing it
It also gave me a deadline of Aug 17th to phone and opt out, otherwise to expect the new card to arrive by mid Sept. As soon as it arrives the old one becomes invalid and can no longer be used.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Might be time to bin the Tesco card. It's been good whilst it lasted.
Mrs GG shops in Asda more than in Tesco so maybe the Asda card will suit us better.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0 -
Hi there, can I just ask - did you get a seperate letter telling you about this new card, or was it on a leaflet that came with the statement. I only ask, as we have been away on holiday and the tesco visa statement was in the pile of post we came back to and trawling through the huge pile got a bit boring so after a quick perusal all the leaflets/bumf went in the recycling bin (after ripping off the personal details) I still have the statements but there is nothing on there, so I hope I didn't miss anything. oops!

It's only a game

Mine was a separate letter which I received a couple of days ago.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

What we've said about going to Mastercard for all cards is correct, which stumped the woman when I said my classic card was already a MC hehe.
Clubcard points are the same, as someone has already quoted so I think the reason is just they're consolidating cards, let's face it, they have loads now, what with the petrol, clubcard and interest-back ones they do now.
We still keep our 'better super deal', i.e. In tesco spend £2 and get 3 points, elsewhere spend £2 get 1 point, whereas for new customers:
"The more you use it, the more you get back! - If you pay with your Clubcard Credit Card at Tesco or Tesco.com, you'll get 5 points for every £4 spent!
And, every time you spend £4 on your Clubcard Credit Card, no matter where else, we'll give you 1 Clubcard Point".
TESCO POINTS: I think boils down to if you use it to shop at Tesco it's better BUT if you use it to shop anywhere else it's worse.
FRAUD: On the leaflet it says you get Fraudsafe whatever that is - if you opt for a Platinum card. Phoned to ask - but after 8 mins (at 4p a minute) I gave up.
I have found that in the last few months, I can never get anyone to answer the phone in a reasonable time and I'm suspicious that they like to keep you hanging on deliberately as it is a nice little earner.... as someone has already said.
Thinking of binning the card on the annoyance factor and phone costs alone.0 -
My tesco bill came today along with new cards, the account number on the bill has already been changed.
Rang TPF customer non service and to ask 2 questions,
1. could i not have old acc number as i but a lot online and did not want hassle of changing with all my suppliers, no she said its to late there is nothing you can do, oh yes there is a can close the account, now as i pay in full every month which i am sure was on her screen , she says ok go ahead and close it. soe question 2 about how many points for instore and out opf store was irrelavnt.
i still wish to know do i stay on the old points scheme or a new one and is it worth the hassle.
BTW my monthly spend on the plastic is app £3500 so lots of points up for grabs , but what is the best way to save them now. any suggestions please.
Below is a scan of leaflet that came with cards. It shows the points a being the same as my old card
