Tesco. What are they up to?

Dont forget the postal strike is delaying many items of post lately.
That could partly be the cause.

Below is a scan of leaflet that came with cards. It shows the points a being the same as my old card

I called when I first received info about this new Platinum card (see earlier post). I have today received a new Platinum card which I already said I didn't want. I have I think 14 days to cancel the agreement, just cut the Platinum card in half along the magnetic strip/signature strip and return it along with the signed cancellation agreement. I just want to stay with my purple Tesco card.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

i have been on holiday and when i got back there were 2 platinum finest mastercard waiting. i nearly cut them up but instead i gave them to my husband. it was only then that we realized that the account had been changed and we had no idea!! anyway the lady on the phone today said the benefits of this card (tesco points) are the same as the visa card. the only difference is that mastercard offer a few discounts (see above leaflet by bordercars). there is a creditcard website https://www.cardguide.co.uk which says that mastercard are accepted in more places than visa but visa have the better security system.
apparently tomorrow the upgrade department are going to call us regarding a switch back. i will let you all know more tomorrow.0 -
Currently do all my spending each month on the classic Tesco Mastercard as I claim the deal points for free holidays and I've not had a letter at all !! I would swap as I already have the mastercard version !! Currently spending £2-3k a month on it so I better get one !!0

We got our new cards throught the post yesterday - this is the first I had heard of it changing.
My husband rang and confirmed that we had received them (as per the instructions on the card) but it was only this morning I started wondering whether we had lost any benefits in the swap. I fished the leaflet that came with it out of the recycling bin (yes I know I should have read it anyway !) and as far as I can see the clubcard points are the same as our classic Tesco Visa Card -that is 1 point every £2 spend and 3 points every £2 at Tesco.
Has anyone found any loss of benefits that I have missed? (apart from the hassle of changing everything over).
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TAKE TIME TO POST COMPETITIONS

There doesn't appear to be any loss of benefit. I spoke to customer service this morning but they could not identify any improvement either. I have always been happy with VISA and simply don't want Mastercard. The notification seems to have been lost in the post so the first I knew was when the card arrived.
New number so hastle of changing standing orders and various other payments eg paypal. Now I have to change back to VISA so both cards will be cancelled and another new number issued anyway!!
I figure this may give Tesco finance some hastle back, so this is what I am going to do.
In the meantime after 10 years with them .....I am looking for another card.
Curtesy and respect for the customer would be nice Mr Tesco. So let us decide what we want.:A0 -
Having over the weekend finally got round to authorising our new shiny Platinum cards (could not work out why we had them when our current Tesco CC is valid until 2008
), it was not until I was on the phone to them that I realised the new cards were Mastercard!! I queried this with the lady on the phone and her words were 'you have no choice but to have Mastercard'! Well - news for you lady - I do have a choice and that is to cancel my Tesco card (we are about to pay the full balance) :j
We had received no notification about the change - just new cards in the post. Luckily I thought to check it out on MSE and found this thread.
Cheek - how dare they dictate who my card is with - I have always been Visa and don't want a MC. So raspberries to Tesco!!

I think another reason for sticking with Visa is that it is accepted in more places worldwide than Mastercard?
That notwithstanding, I object to having such a decision made for me without so much as a by-your-leave, with the onus being put on me to opt out - at my expense.
If you don't phone up, will your existing card remain valid until the expiry date? I'm considering this idea: take no action now, but when you get your new Mastercard just cut it up and continue to use the Visa one instead. Then you can insist on renewing the Visa one when the time comes.
Probably a bit more hassle than just dialling the opt-out number, but it would send to them the message that they can't just muck about with their customers like that.
Don't forget that they must get at least as much value from all that Clubcard data as we do in terms of coupons and the like; if not more so. If enough people cancelled their Tesco card, Clubcard an' all, citing this as the reason, they might realize that it's not in their interests to be so high-handed.
Actually your old Visa will not run until the expiry date. They just cancel it without proper notice. Your visa will just start to be not authorised in shops, etc.
This just happened to us. We're on holiday and have no access to any other visa card, or indeed our 'upgrade card' which apparently awaits us at home.
I rang customer services, spoke to a so-called manager who told me that reinstating our visa was impossible because the 'account was closed' and that they 'sympathised with our situation' (i.e. paying for/survivng the rest of our holiday - 2 adults, 3 young children and a baby - with no cash!) but there was "nothing they could do". It was "not their policy" to help out.... (sorry, I thought I was calling Customer Services?!?!?!!?).
After an hour on the phone (costing us a fortune via mobile, no doubt) we got nowhere. So despite not authorising the upgrade we are stuck without a visa card, as both my husband and myself carry a card each but they're the same account.
We've been told the earliest they can get a new card to us is Thursday - its now Sunday. Meanwhile we're left for five whole days without any cash - we just don't carry it for safety reasons - and no means of feeding our children!! This might sounds like an exaggeration but it really isn't. The 'manager' at Tesco Personal Finance didn't even sound interested in the fact that children and a baby are involved - we might as well have been speaking to an automated message.
Has anyone else been treated so poorly?
Why do these big companies hide behind policies and proceedures instead of applying common sense to the situation?0 -
As earlier poster, and tesco users, I'm TSB and had visa with them for about 20 years now suddenly and without warning have master card. Irritated by lack of warning of this change and not certain if mastercard is an acceptable alternative.
I spoke to someone in card services today and was told that they are changing because VISA are introducing an annual charge. I don't know if anyone out there can confirm this information - or even comment on whether TSB etc need to pass this charge onto customers when they charge us in so many other ways.
Do I change back to VISA with someone else and pay an annual charge? Can I find someone else that won't pass on the VISA charge to me? Do I go with new master card?0
