Should the rewards received from cash back cards be declared on an income tax return in the same way that bank interest is?

No. (Well, I never have done, anyway...)

My understanding is that the rewards are considered to be a discount and thus do not need to declared.
  • Does anyone know if the best cashback cards on the market at the moment are applicable for deposits made to online bookmaker accounts?

    Hi,

I wonder if anyone knows whether Capital one will allow me to switch from a normal platinum card, to their cash back card.

I'm just finishing my 18mths stooze, and I shall pay the balance off in full (not really worth transferring it again). If I can't switch to the cashback card, I shall close the account.

Has anyone successfully done this? It might be easier to close the account, wait at least 6mths, and then apply again.

I'm guess they will tell me where to go... but was wondering if anyone has done this?

    Hi Guys

Been thinking of trying out this little money maker (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/cashback-credit-cards) just have a couple of questions.

Say we spend £1,300 on average per month on everything (mortgage, bills, food - the lot) via direct debit from a joint debit account, could we choose to take all these direct debits out of the cash-back earning credit card instead, and then pay off the bill in full each month with the above mentioned debit account?

Just wondering if it would still work this (very easy) way, or is it too good to be true?

    Regards
    Maz

You can't direct debit a credit card.... (esp mortgage or loan repayments - its against FSA regulations). You can change some payments to credit card instead of direct debit, just keep in mind that you dont get the direct debit guarantee, and YOU can't cancel them. You have to rely on the company at the other end to cancel it when you ask.... dont do it basically.

You CAN use a cashback card for all the food, petrol, anything else you can easily use a card for. HTH

I was wondering how people know/think they got a CapOne bog standard card? Their bog standard card seems to be a VISA rather than Mastercard. I got the pig design and notice it doesnt say Platinum on it (none of the fancy designs when you zoom in on the site DO say Platinum though). So maybe people are just assuming they have got the wrong one on that basis??

One the back of your paperwork that came with the card (which you did keep right lol) where it talks about interest rates, it will mention the cashback if you check. Mine does, and they did ask me why I got the card when I activated to which I said the cashback (which he finished before I said it lol).

You can't direct debit a credit card, but you can choose to pay a standing order from your bank to your credit card at the same time every month. So if you remember to pay using your cc at the same time you could do it

it is fiddly though and takes a good memory. I am useless!!!
Total Reclaimed from banks and credit cards so far: £14139 :T

0% interest on balance transfers for 12 months
2% cashback on supermarket and petrol spend (up to £15 per month)
0.5% cashback on all other spending
    14.9% APR Typical (variable)
I have been to the site this morning, but it wont let me apply on line, and asks you to ring Customer Services.
    Does this look good ?
Have spoken to CS who say it is online application only, so just keep trying, the link will be restored.

God, this is a bit of a let down - everyone was saying it was going to be a 5% cashback card!
