  • Is there any good longish term ones now?

I miss my GE Money card...........
  • Hi all;

I may be being a bit thick here (I've read through the thread, but couldn't see what I wanted . . .) so:-

Does anyone know what credit score the Capital One people want to see when you apply for one of their 4% cards, please?

And as an aside, what does it take to get rated 'Excellent'? - I recently scored 957 and got 'Good'

    TIA

There is no such thing as an industry recognise "credit score".
Capital one do expect a good credit rating but no-one knows exactly what their rules are.

    On whose scoring?
    Was this experian and Equifax?
If so it's fairly meaningless (well only an indication at best) because it can be completely differnt to what each lender uses.
I think you are reading too much into this.
Lenders can set thei own creiteria and never reveal them (otherwise people would deliberately try to fit the profiles and that's not the objective).

Sorry but all you can do is continue to keep up your good record.

When I activated my Capital One 4% cashback card I specifically asked for the start date of the 4% cashback and was given a date nearly 3 weeks earlier than the activation date. When I asked for the start date to be activation date the bank told me it "wasn't their policy" to do that and the start date was the date they had opened the account. As the pin number had taken nearly 10 days to reach me and I was away for a week it would have meant that I would receive only just over 2 months of cashback. On complaining I was advised nothing could be done and so I wrote to the FSA who referred the complaint back to Capital One.

I have now received a letter from Capital one confirming that their policy has changed and everyone will receive 3 months 4% cashback from the date of their first statement ie up to 4 months if you are lucky or can manage your statement date!

Same as me. I never received my card for over 2 weeks due to the postal strike, so my Cashback is due to expire on 1st Jan 08, with only 2 and a bit months of use.

I see you complained and got a positive response.:T well done!
I complained to Capital One and got pushed back with the line.... 'its the date its opened and that it' attitude!!!.

If I can get a couple more weeks, it will tie in with the Jan sales...
Can you let me know who you wrote to, at:
    - FSA
    - Capital One

Thanks for any advice, tips etc....

I spoke to Capital One last month to ask exactly what date my cashback would end. The bloke on the phone said 3 months from the first statement which gives me four months. I queried this a few times, but he was adament. Sounds like they have changed their policy - but probably worth giving them a bell.

Well, took your advice and Cap One said they had changed their policy; and the 4% now expires on the 3rd anniversary date of the 1st Statement date.

So looks like I have a couple more weeks now.

Cheers for you suggestion to try phoning Cap One, one more time. it
    worked!

Check your terms and conditions carefully.I applied on the 5% offer, but when i received the card they were only paying me 3%! I called to complain and i was told not to worry i would receive 5%.I asked the lady I spoke to confirm that was 100% the case.
Surprise surprise, the T&C's were right!
i was again told not to worry her supervisor would speak the "back room" and i would get the 5%.
I am not so sure and have written asking for confirmation.
    Misleading or what?

    Hi Ashton,

I had the exact same problem with my Platinum Card. Apparently all that is wrong is the wording gettign sent out to new customers (!). I've checked my account since and I've been reciving the 5% Moneyback all along, phew!!
Luckily, just a technical hitch rather than a 'too-good-to-be-true' scam

I've made over 40 quid in cashback already, which was all just my normal Xmas shopping so can't wait until it's credited onto my bill this November :T :T

    Good luck!!
  • Now that Capital Ones 4% is coming to an end soon.... has anyone picked up any more Credit Card Cashback deals out there.

I have had a look and its seems apart from Am Ex... its pretty barren...

    anyone seen anything??

Well that's interesting. I emailed their customer services a few weeks back (I'm sorry but I find it so frustrating talking to their indian call centre) about when my 4% ended and they replied with this:

"I can confirm that the introductory period for cash back on your account expires after the first three months fromyour account open date. I can also confirm that your account was opened on 28 September 2007."

We've made £255's worth of cashback though and I'm tempted just to leave it at that. They've not been the best credit card I've ever had I have to say. Number of times that the card has been declined and I've had to pay with another card and then discovered that, no, actually it wasn't declined and I've ended up paying twice and then the onus has been on me to get in touch with the retailer to try and get a refund. What a faff.

Remember the 4% is only meant ot be on the first £3000 of spend (i.e. £120 of bonus) after that it is meant to revert to the 1% cashback. {EDIT] lisyloo has corrected me on this below, it appears there is NOT a limit of £120 on the 4% .. I think I misunderstood, apologies for this (but for once I actually get more than what I expected ;)).

Mine has never been declined ???? If you have a problem you shoulod simply contact CapitalOne and put the item in dispute and let them sort it out.
