  • I recently got the Amex Platinum card with the 5% cashback deal. However, I only got a low limit (less than £3k) which limits my cash back. Very disappointed as my other credit card limit over £20k and I have a good credit rating and income and always pay back my card in full each month. So I don't see the advantage of this 5% cashback for 3mths Amex card deal because I can't increase my limit for 6 months now, so I will lose out on the 5% deal. There had to be a catch!

Abbey did the same with me only gave me £1000 . I think they know from other cards who pays up and takes all the cash back so they limit you. Called Abbey but they would not budge.
  • I applied to Barclaycard for their Platinum Cash Back card only to be told it was only available to new Customers, but I could have a regular Platimum card. I have a regular barclaycard and pay the balance in full every month, so dont see the point in having another which offers favourable terms of transfer. I have complained to them that it is unfair for a loyal customer to get nothing and a new customer to get cashback. I have now applied for a Egg moneycard.
  • Hello

I have a couple of questions about my capital one cashback card. I am currently on the 4% rate (due to expire on Dec 5th) and have been using the card to buy things off of ebay shops via paypal. Do these transactions class as purchases or cash advances that will incur interest?

So far the transactions have appeared on my statement and seem to qualify for the cashback which thus makes me pose the next question: If I was to make a paypal payment to my other half for say £3500 this would incur a 2.9% charge on paypal. However it would then generate a 4% cashback on capital one. Is this possible and / or worth doing?

Finally the real reason for my dilema: I have accidentally paid last months credit card bill twice (that will teach me for using internet banking!) and as a result my Credit Card is now £3500 in credit and my bank is £2000 overdrawn! In order to get the money back I am going to have to deal with Capital One's outer mumbai call centre and then trapes down to the bank to explain the situation there and try and reclaim all the interest and fees incurred. However if I just make that paypal payment from my credit card to my other half then he can put the cash back into the bank account.

Anyone offer any advice or have I confused you all.

    Best regards

    Lynne

The limit is £200 cashback with the 5% deal so maximum spend that generates cashback in 3mths is £4K

Then it is tiered at 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% on spend over £10K.

I just tried to apply and got errors as I put a space in my phone number, went round in circles and had to cancel, will try later.

Tip - apply through your Quidco login and earn £10 click through cashback as well!
If it takes a man a week to walk to walk a fortnight how long does it take a fly with tackity boots on to walk through a barrel of treacle?
  • I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if this has been covered before but when and how do Capital One pay the actual cashback to you? I've had two statements through from them now without a whiff of a mention of any cashback amount accrued.

Do they wait till the 4% period expires or should it show up in your account every month? And does it get paid to you in the form of a cheque or does it just sit in your capital one account as a credit?

    Thanks

It come back to you in January and I think it's credited to your account.

Are you absolutely sure. Two things to check.
    1) Check you actually have the platinum cashback card. Did they give you a different card.
    2) Check your statement about 2/3rds of the way down (after all the transactions). It's definitely on my paper statements (but not on-line).
Do they wait till the 4% period expires or should it show up in your account every month?

They do it annually in January.
And does it get paid to you in the form of a cheque or does it just sit in your capital one account as a credit?

Well the sensible thing would be to reduce your payment.
If you ignore it and pay too much and don't use the card then it will sit there as a credit until you ask for a cheque.
Most people will either reduce their payment (to the balance) or carry on spending on the card.
  • I had the Barclaycard Platinum card and requested I be upgraded to the cashback version. The first guy I spoke to in India advised me to go to a Barclays branch which I found odd. On asking his name he hung up on me. The second time I rung they had never heard of the cashback card. Requested a cancellation and they transferred me to the office in Scotland, where they offered a market leading 3% on all purchases for 3 months. Shows that if you really kick up a stink you can get a better deal as an existing customer than a new one on occasions! They said they would see how the scheme goes on whether it would be renewed then so not holding my breath though!
  • As 2007 draws to a close I'd like to share my year's cashback card experiences:

    Capital ONE card:
like many who have posted here I too had:
    a) issue of my 3 months 4% cashback period starting before I have even received ithe card - my complaint got me nowhere now see from a post here I should have complained to the FSA
    b) this issue of my DD not being set up even though I have confirmation it had been ... agonising calls to mumbai where they treated me as some kind of outcast as I had missed my payment date and finally being transferred to a UK colleague who sorted it out - without any penalty to me thankfully

    MORGAN STANLEY
My cash back date moving by a year without any explanation and when I called up being told that its now paid whenever the customer requests it (doesn't say so on the statement though!) and then being told about the £15 multiples required for cashback ... I'm still waiting for my £60 cheque. Seems I'm not the only one.

    Abbey
Got my hubbie to apply for this 5% supermarket cashback card in his name to spread the impact on credit scores. Boy what a mistake.

1)Like others, Abbey sent us a card but then decided they wanted extra ID proof.
2)We asked for the DD to pay the full amount and when the time came round it only took £5! Our word against theirs ...
    3) somehow we have now ended up with 2 accounts with them which they said they can only turn into one if we do a balance transfer from one to the other ... which is rediculous as its them who have set us up with 2 accounts!
    4) My hubbie has tried to just pay all we owe over the phone to get us out of this mess (they don't have that facility yet but may do in the future!!). At one point someone even sent him to our local branch though they couldn't help at all.
He feels like he has wasted 2+ hours of his time talking to idiots who have not been able to help at all. I'm just sorry I asked him to take on the card. hope we get to cancel v soon. Just not worth the hassle.

    American Express Platinum card
So far an easy, straightforward process - thumbs up for Amex!!!
  • Check your terms and conditions carefully.I applied on the 5% offer, but when i received the card they were only paying me 3%! I called to complain and i was told not to worry i would receive 5%.I asked the lady I spoke to confirm that was 100% the case.
Surprise surprise, the T&C's were right!
i was again told not to worry her supervisor would speak the "back room" and i would get the 5%.
I am not so sure and have written asking for confirmation.
    Misleading or what?
