MS (Goldfish) tell me that the cash back will be paid eventually

Do you have that in writing/email?
If you have it written then you have a good chance of getting it back.

If it was someone on the phone and you don't have the surname, date and time then it's anybody's guess.

    Get it in writing.
  • Got my Amex 5% cashback card, and have spent £155 on it so far.

But my online 'recent' transactions says my 'eligible spend' for cashback so far is 310.

Can anyone explain, or have I just got lucky ?!

Hmm... burgesst, could it be that you purchased some items, then took them back and got a refund?

Could of course be that Amex simply haven't updated their billing systems yet with recent transactions and so on. From experience I've found that only the actual monthly statement is accurate enough.
  • Guess I'll wait for the statement, though it does seem odd that 310 = 155 x 2!

By the way, was going to apply via Rpoints, but my friend had a 'recommend a friend offer', and we both should get 4 bottles of wine, which seems like a better deal...

Did you book a hotel or something like that where they take a "reservation".

Hotel companies "reserve" money on your credit card (in case you runaway or damage the room).
Sometimes reservations don't get cancelled as soon as you've spent the money so your limit is used up twice.

    This would explain it.
Probably what will happen is in a few days it will revert to £155.
  • No, nothing unusual, just supermarkets, petrol and a Children in Need donation...

I meet all of these criteria but I was still turned down for the Capital One card. I'm writing to appeal. It's worth getting your reports from Experian and Equifax and checking them with a fine-toothed comb; although all the financial information on mine was correct, the Experian report says that I lived at my past address for 1 year instead of 7 years, and so there is a gap of 6 years, which may raise some eyebrows (although reading further it shows several credit applications from that address during the gap period, so it should be obvious).

My appeal was successful so it's worth giving it a go if you get turned down for Capital One even though you've got an excellent credit rating. In my letter I listed their criteria for getting the card, and then showed how I met each one. I also corrected the misleading information on the Experian report about my previous address.
  • Be careful if you transfer a balance to Capital One when you open the account.
I changed from MBNA and sent £560 across to Capital One.
The whole balance was cleared on the first statement (via a Direct Debit which clears the total at the end of every month).
I was charged interest on the first statement which though annoying I took to be some charge for the processing
On the second statement there was another charge so I called India.
I was told that unless I requested a "settlement balance" the charges would continue.
With the language barriers and the line quality I now assume they are going to send me a statement mid month which has to be paid in full then the charges will be stopped.
There must be something in the very small print which ties you into these annoying little bits of sharp practice but I suppose a cheque and a sharp pair of scissors can sort it out.
