It's the law now for them to give you these examples so they have to do it.

Whether they could express it more clearly is a different matter and I suspect the answer is - probably.

You don't have anything to worry about.
It's just in todays litigious society we need to have the "bleedin obvious" everywhere e.g. packets of nuts that sy "may contain nuts" and cups of coffee that say "may contain hot liquid".
    That's all it is.
  • Hello All

Quick question really. Want to apply for Cap One 4% cashback card but I think my credit score will go against me. I've never had a credit card before and have never been in any serious sort of debt...will i just get rejected flat out?

    Cheers

According to their website, you need an "excellent" credit rating to apply for this card.

Capital One define this "excellent" credit rating with, amongst others, the following criteria...

    1. Must have held credit cards for at least 5 years.
    2. Your current card must have a credit limit of at least £5,000

Based on the above, I'd say you were highly likely to be rejected...and possibly offered one of their other (perhaps credit builder) products.

I probably just narrowly missed that. I've had a card before with a £9K limit; currently I don't have a single credit card with more credit than £4800. Also I have had credit cards for about 4.5 years. Am I also likely to get rejected?

I opened up a new abbey national credit card about a month ago and I am still waiting to sort out getting the cards. The capital one account was easy compared to this!

We received a form to sign and return and we now have a further form where they require customer IDS. Can not understand why as thought that was only if you were opening a new account not a credit card. Can anyone please advise what to do as getting to the point where I can not be bothered. My GE card lasts until mid November so will only get 2.5 months out of the Abbey one anyway.

Whole thing has put me off. Just been on the phone to them and they said it is quickest to go into a branch as there is a big back log.

Rejected by Capital One - Stoozers beware!
I have an excellent credit history and have never failed to pay off my monthly credit card bill with goldfish by direct debit. I have security of £m's I have never owed anything to anyone yet I was turned down by Capital one after clicking on a link from this site. My first thought is this: Are Capital One aware of Martin Lewis and the reasons he is suggesting this card? (Use it for 3 months then dump it!). Is the link the problem??
Like I said something is wrong here as I have never been rejected before.

Every card provider's different - Martin says you need a squeeky clean credit history and I think that doesn't just mean paying on time, but your current amount of debt, therefore stoozers with high credit will score badly here even if they have never missed a payment

Well I have had no credit for 20 years when I had a mortgage which I soon paid off. I have 1 main credit card which I pay off each month. I am now retired with a large pension income. We have no one living with us and we have been here 10 years so I dont understand. I have never been turned down for anything before and feel a little annoyed. I took out an Asda store card last month with no problems.
