  • I have got exactly the same figure quoted in my agreement.

Quick question: I applied for the card with my fiancee as a second card holder. I presume we both have to sign the agreement?

See the reply from 'Ainmhidh' in the thread. Once I read that and checked the agreement it all seemed to make sense.:rotfl:

Is Capital One deliberately making it hard to clear statement balances in order to get fees and interest to cover the cashback?

I'm posting this to see if anyone else has hit this - I got accepted for the 4% deal and have been spending like crazy, after the first statement I realised that the bill had not been paid despite thinking I'd set it up to pay off the full amount by direct debit. I immediately phoned, and 40 minutes later to the overseas callcentre (who claimed Cahoot was not a bank etc) set up the direct debit. One month later money was not taken out of my account to pay the now very large bill. Another lengthy, confusing and convuluted phone call later where I was assured my direct debit was set up, a few days later another statement arrived, again not paid, now with £100 interest on.
So another phone call, this time to England, operator said that the direct debit set up on September 2nd would not apply till October 29th (ie eight weeks later) therefore I must pay the bill. I said this was ridiculous, she said it was my word against theirs and to read the direct debit guarantee form (ehhh?) and lo and behold by vacillating with my direct debit they have recovered their 4% cashback.

    Is this standard practice?

When I called to activate my card and set up the DD the CS went into great detail to explain when my first statement would be, when it would have to be paid by, when my DD would be taken and the fact that the statement WOULD TELL ME (like my other card statements) IF THE PAYMENT WILL BE MADE BY DD and to check this on the statement. Am I missing something in your post.
  • Any time I have set up DD's to pay my CC the statement has ALWAYS indicated that the balance would be collected by direct debit on whatever date. Any time I set up a DD on my CC accounts, I knew that just because I phoned to set it up it didn't mean that the DD was operational and ready for the company to use on the next payment date, it was usually the month after that it worked and even then, I always checked the statement when it arrived. But then that's me. Everyone is different, but surely if the first bill isn't paid, you'd be querying when it was going to be and paying it off PDQ.
  • Many thx. Very usefull.
  • DOes anyone know, If you get the 4% cashback if you can clear this at the end of the month by transferring to an interest free card.

IE spend £1000 get £40 cashback, pay the 2.5% handling free to the new card. you would basically get interest free on purchases for a year possibly 15 months and get 1.5% cash back too
  • Managed to get my mitts on the Captial One card (for fuel and travel costs). I recieved the agreement which I have signed and returned, but have since received a second agreement (the same as the first). Have they just cracked up? I'm going to give them a call anyway...

When I activated my Capital One 4% cashback card I specifically asked for the start date of the 4% cashback and was given a date nearly 3 weeks earlier than the activation date. When I asked for the start date to be activation date the bank told me it "wasn't their policy" to do that and the start date was the date they had opened the account. As the pin number had taken nearly 10 days to reach me and I was away for a week it would have meant that I would receive only just over 2 months of cashback. On complaining I was advised nothing could be done and so I wrote to the FSA who referred the complaint back to Capital One.

I have now received a letter from Capital one confirming that their policy has changed and everyone will receive 3 months 4% cashback from the date of their first statement ie up to 4 months if you are lucky or can manage your statement date!
  • 4% cash back great - got accpeted but turns out that a number of UK merchants have not updated to accept this card so beware your card doenst get rejected as mine did. Capital one say they know about the problem and hope to have it fixed "within the next couple of weeks" so not really 3months at 4%!

Well done for getting that sorted, however you can make purchases without your PIN.
Anything you buy over the phone or internet does not need a PIN.
I spent over £3K on a holiday, car insurance, house insurance etc. without needing a PIN.
A lot of people seem to be under the impression that the card is useless wihtout a PIN which simply isn't true, only if you refuse to use the internet or phone.
