She's 18, drives me mad with her untidiness & yeah whatever attitude. But i love her, & she just won,t listen to my worries about her safety. My concerns are over when she goes to town at the weekends. She goes with hardly any money, & invariably her 'friends' get para, or cop off, and leave her. Two weekends ago I had to go an pick her up at 4am as she rang me asking for help. She'd been abandoned for the umpteenth time, had no money and no way to get home, and no 'friends' place to crash out at :(

I keep telling her she's taking risks, not to accept drinks off people -'its fine Im with them at the bar' etc. This isn't the half of it, but she won't listen. Its like watching a slow motion car crash.

Just at a loss really. At 18 I can hardly ground her! Help

EDIT: she's not promiscuous BTW, shes Choosey, which isn't a bad thing

She should have a little more sense at 18!

I would give her the cab fare and a number of a cab firm, but make it clear you are not picking her up, and that if she is old enough to drink, she is old enough to use her brain.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

As a side issue, does she ever get into a car with friends when the driver could have had a drink/drugs/is just larking about? If so, she is old enough to watch this (from Australia) it is supremely well-made but is very graphic about the possible consequences: http://youtu.be/Z2mf8DtWWd8
  • ...Google Caroline Coyne. There was another woman who left Nottingham early hours in the morning after a night out and didn't have enough for bus fare. She attempted to walk some of the way to meet her Mum but she was dragged into the forest recreation ground and raped quite brutally....

She was murdered afterwards; a relative of mine served on the jury for this terrible case, and although she is not allowed to talk about it except in general terms I know that, as a relatively young woman, she is distinctly more careful about her movements than previously.

The way girls get on nights out now terrifies me, I know its a bit of in my time it wasn't this bad, but I'm convinced it wasn't.
I was 18 around 1995 and we got in some right states admittedly but nothing like what you see driving through town late at night, girls vomiting and laying in the road.
Me and my friends would have been mortified to get in that state but now kids think its funny.

So true, I'm a little younger than you but not much (18 in 2000) and I'm horrified by the state some teenagers/20 something's get in!
Yes, I've been drunk, and very drunk but I've always been aware and never drunk so much I've blanked out.

I think that's really scary, I hear it all the time about not remembering what's happened the night before, idiots.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.
