All my fingers are crossed that she gets the job olibrofiz - just wanted to add though, getting my first full-time job at age 17 was when I started getting very drunk almost every weekend, with my new workmates :). I always knew how I was getting home though, and I always phoned to let my mum know when I was due to be home, or if I was staying over at someone else's house.

can you just show her this? my DIL went out with her friends (her mum was there too) a few weekends ago. at a local pub/disco she had a couple of lagers and went into the loo, leaving her drink on the table - she came out and 'remembers nothing after that'! she was found unconscious in her own vomit outside the pub by the bouncer. who took care of her and sent inside for her friends and mum. she came round and refused an ambulance so was taken home by her brother. after talking to her friends and mum she had only had a couple of lagers and one 'shot'. certainly not enough to cause this! she was feeling (and looking) ill for two/three days after. we all think she had her drink 'spiked' by someone who thought she was an easy target and hadn't realised she was actually with people (she will go and dance on her own). if this can happen to a mature 25 yr old - then an 18 yr old whose friends have bu99ered off is at even more risk!
my advice to my own DD was
arrange your transport home before leaving the house
Never get separated from your friends - if you do, then do not drink any more and try to get someone to pick you up or ask if taxi can pick you up earlier.
never ever use an 'unlicenced' taxi!

forgot to say that her mum and friends had realised she was missing and were looking for her. the bouncer found her at the back of the pub! the rear door is near the ladies so she could have gone out by mistake........or left by mistake..........She was feeling so dreadful about it that I hesitated to say she should get checked for 'rape'. tactful enquiries a few days later and she says she would have known - I hope she is right.
  • Thank you xx I shall be having more grown up talks with her

DD got the job, I think! well, she has an induction day next week, and a training day....so that sounds positive anyway

I personally won't even get into a taxi as I don't know the driver.

I don't think that is very helpful, you are much safer in a cab than attempting to walk home some or part of the way! The majority of cab drivers are trustworthy however be careful to check the cab has council licence plates- black cabs have these on the inside too and it's easy to take a quick pic as backup. I always ring someone to tell them I have got in the taxi too, ensuring the driver hears! Just to be vigilant really but certainly not to avoid taxi altogether.

yes she has the job I would say - firm doesn't go to the expense of induction and training if they haven't - but it does give an employee the option of seeing if they think they will fit - its surprising how many people don't get past the induction training days! of their own accord - I had one lady freak out because she hadn't realised they used ladders in the stock room! she didn't come back!
  • I must be really strange, I would far rather pick my daughter up even if it was at 4am than have her take risks (I have a son and I have learned to make sure he has a way to get home whether its a lift, taxi or with friends after one disaster). Its what was done when I was young (many many moons ago) and Its what I would expect to do as long as it wasn't too often.

you might be interested in this app for phones , it's free to use

SafeKnight is a free mobile 'app' designed as a safety tool for everyday situations of vulnerability. With just one click, the app enables you to take a photo and automatically store it on a secure database, paired with your unique ID, time, date and the GPS location of where it was taken.
SafeKnight can be used in a number of everyday situations such as using taxi services or public transport, chronicling movements on a night out, travelling abroad, internet dating, and meeting new people through social media.
The database can only be accessed by the police and other investigatory services, so all you need to do is take photos if you’re ever in a vulnerable situation. Please tell a loved one that you’re using SafeKnight so that they know to report it, if the situation ever does arise.
