I have my fingers in my ears about moving costs - :D I know you're all deeply sensible it's just alot of money for not alot of stuff. Wik has been laughing at my sulkiness. She keeps telling me sensible things and I keep sulking more, and telling her I can't hear her. She's a good sort and can shout if needed.

I'm still pondering options if I'm honest.

I'm so over 'stuff' so only the essentials are coming.

And I'm really looking at everything and thinking, are you replaceable/or do we actually need you?

Only a few things have made the grade, but a lack of stress might be nice.

It's all about balance and choice I guess. But it's my hard cash and I'm not for giving it away lightly. Oh how things change, I use to do, pay then think oh gosh ow can I pay for that, worry about that mañana. I was an utter idiot with money.

Goes back to sulki-lands.

:D

But I hear ya :-)

Off to look at my list again and ponder its 'worth' emotionally as well as financially.

My problem (well ONE of my problems) is that we're moving two houses into one, we are in stuff overload.

(it's my diary and I'll sulk like a small child if I want too :D)

Seriously though thanks food for thought.

Initially I googled this and got a space battleship

:rotfl::rotfl:

Which would probably excite KC (waves I'm so glad you're a bit better) as much as I.

:D

Then I found the chicken version.

:eek:I don't think anything in my life is that clean.

:rotfl:

Although the idea of a few gals with diff coloured eggs suits my inner 'country living' heart. And bonnie mixed coloured eggs may sell well at farmers markets should that be a route I take in the future. Just saying, nowt planned you know but lots of ideas mushing about in my sort of brain. My other idea is an online virtual gardener :-) which I already do for chums :-)

:D

Thank you MWC

Stuff for moving (green stays, amber debating, red gone)

green sofa - 3 seat paid for it to be recovered with 'coo' money, invested over 600 quid in it - love it - whatever happens it stays.

brown sofa - 2 seat its knackered but its my grannies and I use to sleep on it when I was a kid and a teenager, they were my sanctuary - it stays and will probably be buried with me.
(chesterfield leather, two seater, scuzzy but well loved)

fridge (5ft upright)
freezer(5ft upright)
these are AMBER - I paid £150 for them (pair of 5.5ft upright larder fridge/freezer. New house has large 'american style fridge freezer lobbed in price. Not sure if we need them, but loathe to part with them unless I can replace if needed for similar money.

COULD SELL.

20 boxes (?) - guesstimate, mainly kitchen clobber, garden tools, etc mostly replaceable if needed. Aside the fish boxes obviously, but empty they'd stack.
Fish boxes could be replaced but I'm a saddo and attached to them.

small dining table/four stools its OK fits a small corner but not essential. Nice but its not on the green list yet. Bought for 50 quid second hand, its got 'pie' seats which are good for making it a 'neat' table.
Ponders some more.

large dining table flat pack - huge ikea job - 8ft long, 12 when extended, got reduced for £80 worth a bit more but a bit scratched.
Ponders amber/to green, replacable but would cost more, will fit in new kitchen if house purchase goes through.

ETA £170 to replace. This might move to green

medium dresser x 2 ones a mexican pine job (9 drawers and I love it, ones a really old 16 drawer thingmy from an old hotel one of a kind antycue ish. bought it with wedding money.
They stay.

chest of drawers bonnie, oh loves it, its cute, was free and pine/older so it looks nice. replaceable but maybe costly.

upright piano its nice, I don't play, I might play one day. OH loves it, again free for a bit of labour in a garden. It will be a bisom to move but he loves it as a bit of old 'furniture' - could replace would be costly but would we actually replace it?
I suspect this is adding lots to the cost of moving.

single bed frame metal (no mattress) -
small desk Flat pack - ikea cost £60 is replaceable, is DD's - will ponder.
Shes not attached to it.

Ikea white sofa (kipplan) - cost 120, might see if I can get 60 for it. Would fit in new house, but we've 4 sofas' without it.
And we don't have 4 bottoms.

Bird table pressie but essentially its a bird table so replaceable.
But would cost about £40 ponders

garden tools x 3 fishboxes - could replace but would cost lots.
Although could condense further.

double bed frame (metal) no mattress my first piece of 'new' furniture - replaceable but half of it is already doon sooth.

wee stool me orkney creepie and I love it found it at a car booty - takes up almost NO space.
So it stays or I'll bite yer arm off.

Orkney Chair at menders, pals will bring down when done. Its old, and lovely, I got it for a steal (£160) - ok for a chair that's alot but its an Orkney Chair. They're super lovely.

Bathroom cabinet (floor standing) bonnie old wood thing which is painted. Present o myself after my PhD went boobs up, love it.

tents x 3

sewing machines x 2 (erm 3 actually all singers, although one is Wiks) - will hide in boot.

garden bench (flat pack)
gave it to a chum to look after and if want can have it back later.

I'm posting this in the manner of a 'life' SOA - and I'm going to give myself a hard time about what I want to keep and why.

If I'm going to commit £1000 to moving this lot, I want to make sure I need it, it means something to me, or it would be daft to replace.

I'm a gal on a mission.

I'm being ruthless but pondering actual cost move v. replacing those things replaceable and also then find cost of 'no negotiation items' to move.

ETA and a free hen house worth about £150ish new.

So the greens are worth 'roughly' £1000 in money terms. They'd need moved however we do it and are worth it emotionally.

The ambers are roughly worth (if put up for selling or need replacing) - 'roughly' £500 quid.

In terms of emotional attachment, there's only the real things in green.

I need to really look through the kitchen and declutter more, I think I'll get rid of most of china (OH has plenty of mine already and some of the plates are cracked etc) easy to charity shop for bits when I'm down.

Same with bedding. Look, sort, charity shop.

Lets not think about books though. They stay (and form a core of the twenty boxes, if only a few). :D

I am wondering about the piano - I'm sure if we wanted we could get one off freecycle etc if we even got round to it.

It lovely but it will have pushed the price up, I might email him and see if its not coming how much that reduces things.

And I'm going to ask after that about a 'cash' price if that's an option.

My cash is quite limited, but might be worth a 20% discount (ie no vat) if they're even folks who will consider but they're a good company so I doubt it.

:)

Sorry that was dull but I needed to think it out.

I'm still of two minds.

I think I'll see what the quote is without the piano and WITH the hen house.

Right now I need a hen house more than a piano.

I think I'm lucky as I've been given lots of stuff, but also lots is second hand, so there's not alot of actual 'value' aside some of the emotional stuff.

Re: the piano - my nephew owns East Neuk Pianos, he was trying to rehome a free upright that a tuning client no longer wanted the other day, so if you decided not to take the piano, there would be plenty of suitable replacements in the area.

Oh, I so hear you with this. I am however glad to see you are constructing a 'traffic light' list. Eminently sensible.

We were talking about these very same issues the other day, following the disappointment in the behaviour of our 'friends'. We amalgamated 2 houses - many moons ago now. But we said that a) we can't believe how much stuff we've divested to different sources over the years = TONS, b) that we have not regretted parting with anything - not one single thing! c) we wished we had slim-lined years ago, because we have moved some things that we subsequently disposed of (recycled/gave away/whatever), d) we are finding this latest stint of purging VERY refreshing - BUT it is by far the most emotional impact we have ever felt about 'stuff' and e) we've still more stuff that needs to exit Greying Towers.

So please don't feel bad about feeling like you're on an emotional roller coaster - because you are. And I for one am glad that you have somewhere to vent, I'm still in the mixed up stage after Sunday's nonsense.

Greying
Pounds for Panes £7,305/£10,000 - start date Dec 2023

Grocery Spend August 2025 £49.79/£300
Non-food spend August 2025 £3.75/£50
Bulk Fund August 2025 £0/£10
• I spoke to TRG he's less attached than I thought so I've emailed the mover to ask if they'd amend the price if it didn't come.

I didn't mention the hen house, not yet. Small steps and all that.

Greying

Thank you so much that's helped hugely. Its just the sheer volume of 'things' and their actual value/emotional dubry's.

I'm so sorry sunday was rough for you. :kisses3:

I'll take for once the sensible comment. But I'll try not to make a habit of it. But in my head there's the keepers, the not sures and the wrinkled up nose bits (they don't smell, I'm just not sure about them.):rotfl:

I'm far to silly to be hiding that guise for long.

Re: the piano - my nephew owns East Neuk Pianos, he was trying to rehome a free upright that a tuning client no longer wanted the other day, so if you decided not to take the piano, there would be plenty of suitable replacements in the area.

Well that's about sealed the deal then eh? That handy to know and I know of folks in Fife wanting pianos - would it be OK to put them in touch? I'll not do anything til I hear :)

:D

Honestly I'm 'fae the hilltoon', me pa was in a bad gang (well it was the sixties and folks went a bit crazy) etc - what on earth am I doing with an upright piano in my life?

Mind you I'll be an 'East Neuker' soon enough, I'm sure you need a piano to get in, maybe I'll get away with a future piano.......or a photo of one :)

I'm being silly as I know its just stuff but strange how we do become 'attached'.

:rotfl:

Thanks guys.
