Mrs McB's countdown to adventures with chooks (and Rock Gods)

I've worked full time since dropping out of uni in 2002. This year I'm on a short-term contract and they asked if I would do four days rather than five. As the sole earner that was scary but it's been great. I'm more rested and the house looks better (some weeks, not all!)
I'm now back jobhunting again as I finish up with this one on Friday and am not looking forward to going full time again. If you can make it work for you then go for it0 -
Sorry about my mixup, Pipster - trip will still be fun, I'm sure, even tho not with the object of your devotion
As for the work - what moomin said, if you can make it work, go for it. Why on earth *should* you be stuck in the job market, when there's so many other ways you can live a full life, especially as you have the added flexibility of TRG in your life? I know you don't want to be dependent, but you might be interested in the concept of "inter-dependence" - its lovely, really, and I think its what you and TRG are spontaneously aiming for.
And now that you'll be on the mainland soon, I do think there's a real chance for you to create some kind of high-value gardening scheme that'll pootle away in the background for most of the year with a couple of hours a week once you get it running - saffron, garlic, chilis, don't know, you'll know better than me :j
Have a good'un today, anyway :kisses3:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Pippi I'd definitely say go for whatever makes you happy.
I've worked full time for over 30 years and the guilt I feel over not working at the moment is ridiculous. But I get to spend lots of time with SB so having a new way of life forced on me is good.
You get one kick of the ball...spend it with the people you love, doing things you enjoy and just top up the pots as needed. You're lucky that your job is your passion too, so hopefully even the worky part of the balance is pretty fulfilling.
Ramble over...gotta love NHS drugs :rotfl::rotfl::A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Pippi, how fast can you type? If you can hit 65wpm, the place I do freelance audio transcription for is recruiting at the moment, I can PM you the link for their application process if you're interested.0

KC as always so much sense, in both your posts thank you so much for taking the time to support me like always. We are after a balance and we're both mindful and new to the whole we'll be together soon thing. I must never forget that. The high end gardening growing/farmers markets etc is always a real option. I need to check the T/C's of the post in the big garden to make sure I've no restrictions on activities outwith post............
Ah Beanie and all you visitors thank you. Sorry to rumble on some days its just tumbles out.
I have loved seeing you pop by when I've been off at the coal face - if you can call being lead around a walled garden, in a castle, on an island HARD WORK then that's how today has been.
You'll be glad to hear I got back safelybut wowser long day.
Cazmanian Minx - how lovely - I just did a test and it told me I was 52wpm - but I'm tired! Wowser I use to be up at 100 (about the same amount of years ago)!! I'd certainly be interested thank you for thinking of me.
KissJenn oh how lovely to see you - thank you wise words. Its the guild that's killing me - I am available for work therefore I MUST work all the time there is in the universe. And, you're right I do what I love and that's awesome too and I'm lucky - but working at growing food/creating a home/putting life before money is important too.
(Will wait and see if I'm struck by lightening by saying that here in the lands of MSE)
.......Ok so far. I do need to be mindful there's only one shot at it. And, if you've any decent 'mellowing' type of NHS drugs that be lovely.
You're so right its about balance.
Moomin - I'm glad you've got a good balance but sorry to hear you're looking again. Is there much work around for your line of work? I have to say hats off to you if the house is tidier with you in it more - I create a disaster zone when I'm in. Ta for sharing.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:

That list
Walk mutts
Do some washingits in the machine - that counts right? I never promised to switch it on
Prepare final slides for brassica's tonight
Finish p/w for todays visit
Make and take lunch
Ponder if I take tea too or see how sorted I am after slides etc are sorted I snuck home and had a sneaky 45 minutes at home, made fish and rice, scoffed it and left the washing up to those who shall not be named.
Walk mutts again
Recycling needs to go out
Banks to check
CC's to check - no payments lately but only two work things on the card
Book ferry (sadly on card but is work/interview expense) - too late home will do torrow
Plan what to take down to TRG's hoose in car and do some serious thinking about tetris packing -still thinking
Meals from stores - fish tonight
Ask DD to declutter a bag of clothes she's sorted out for the charity shop:T
Co-ordinate with Mrs Aunty C Wik_McB regarding greenhouses and wud for making a gate at TRG's flat to secure el mutts
TELL INTERVIEW FOLKS II WILL BE COMING - don't forget in excitement.:j:j:j:j:j:j
Have a think about how 10 hours a week works in with life and finances if I get the job and if I get a bit of additional work (eg still teaching at college/remote admin/support for wombleland) can I manage. :rotfl: lots of thinking not alot of actual action.
Remind board they're deciding tonight if I can keep a day of work with them or not should be decided tonight. :j:j:j:j:j I'm being kept on 1 day a week from TRGs flat.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D that's 7 hours a week in the bag until next March if I want it.
I know its dreadful (or is it?) but I don't really want a f/t job if I can help it. As I want to be still be able to cook/garden, look after el mutts and TRG etc BUT I do need to think about scary things like pensions (I don't have one)
Daft question alert - my chum and I were talking about this yesterday, is saying I'd like a good work/home life balance a bad thing, even when the kids are vamoosing off.
I've been giving myself a very hard time about potentially NOT working full time as I want to concentrate on home too.
I know we need to be able to live, but its not all about money is it, as long as there's grub in the cupboards and bonio's etc - I'm haivering but I know what I mean.Informed or infact deranged thoughts on a post card please
Off to look through scary fingers at banks.
ETA put on list PICK UP CHEQUE TONIGHT>
SO not a bad day.
Trip to a walled garden expensed and PAID
Wages cheque in sticky MITT
Two emails from heads of my education department 'doon sooth in the land of the large teaching green place' with advice and endorsing my potential for the 10 hours teaching job there in the lands of community growing.
News that one candidate has pulled out, sad for them, good for me I'm now down to 5 applicants, 4 to try and over come with my uber geekiness.
Greenhouse is numbered and ready to be packed in car with one adopted grandad McB-Wik and he's waiting for gate measurements.
I just need to work on my '5 minute show us you're brilliant presentation'.
No pressure eh.
Brassica's didn't gel as well as I'd hoped tonight - must revisit that next time we all meet after holidays.
AND NO NO WORD FROM THE JOB I INTERVIEWED FROM. OK I GET THAT i HAVEN'T GOT IT - BUT CHAPS, THIS LONG, NOT COOL TO NOT LET SOMEONE KNOW WHEN YOU SAID EARLY LAST WEEK.
I AM A POTENTIAL VOLUNTEER AFTERALL EVEN IF UNSUCCESSFUL.

Thank you Caz!
Morning universe. Dull here today (the weather not the company).
Off to check banks and ponder my life strategy.
Not much really for this time of the morning eh.
Keeping 7 hours a week from the womble factory is very exciting.
Will also be keeping some 'learning factory' hours but they'll be irregular and reducing over time.
That's OK though.
Doing some sums (IF) I get the job in Edinburgh at the big garden (10 hours a week) but that's got travel with it.
Womble land is 7 hours - home based.
Learning factory irregular but potentially also home based with a couple trips in.
Wondering if 17 hours a week is OK to live on and provide for the uni chick and bonio support for the mutts. (And the odd packet of lovehearts for TRG) The salary for both jobs is about the same (which is very very reasonable) and my living expenses will be (I'm told) minimal in the short term anyway.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
