I wonder what Ofcom would make of the refusal to refund the line rental saver in these circumstances?
Have you phoned Virgin to complain?
Couldn't you scrap the Freeview (just buy your own Freeview box connected to an aerial) and downgrade the XL telephone to M (use the cheap dial numbers on http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/ukcallchecker/landline/daytime/virgin/easy )?
Havent got around to calling them yet, but will do soon.
To be fair, we was pretty happy with the package for £24. We downgraded the past package which was costing us £70 a month. Had Tivo and V+ XL, but found we was hardly watching anything. On the other hand, we had the lowest phone package but was spending a fortune!0 -

I think you can claim that back! ... someone else in this thread said you have 7 days to cancel though to get it?
Worth checking I'd say ...0 -
Just rang up and gave my notice, from the price rise. Its fine, 30 days notice accepted. I am on 60 Meg and talk umlimited, (could be tempted to drop the phone as we only use it as its there). Lat year i was paying £28.50. At the end of the contract they wouldnt offer a better deal, so i took the £28.50 as offered again.
I thought they would offer a deal but they never so told them to carry out the disconnection.Told them i will get TESCO broadband and they used samknows to tell me i would get something like7 meg)
Feel like i either accept the price rise or take the poor speeds offered elsewhere...0 -
i've had my 18 month contract for 6 months now, just got through to virgin, told them i wasn't happy about the price hike..said they couldn't do anything. when i said i was going to terminate the contract, they put me through to a lovely man who bent over backwards to keep me. i have paid £120. upfront for the line rental, and got a massive discount. my original cost were £497, new costs £426 per year, less the £120. that i have just paid.
thanks for the help and advice martin!0 -
Just had the email too.
Quite fed up with them, used to be a great company with competitive pricing but over the last few years has become a yearly battle to keep prices down anywhere near what new customers are offered.
Just wondering, I am out of contract so could leave without any penalties, when would be the best time to try and get a better deal and avoid the price hike? I'm on the M+ package with tivo and 30 meg bb. I'm paying £35.99 and the proposed price hike for me is £4.50.0 -
Just be aware folks! My package is going up in Feb by £4.50. That is an increase of 25% on my current bill of £18.00 !!!!!!!!!! I decided to leave but guess what?
July i paid 12 months line rental and I am told I dont get a refund if I leave so I`m snookered either way! Lose £90 line rental or stay and pay 12months x £4,50. Obviously cheaper to stay but roll on when I can leave.0 -
Interesting, we got Virgin BB, TV (M+) and basic phone line, about a year ago.
I'd like to know if I can ditch the TV & phone line as a result of these incoming hikes?
I'd most like to ditch the phone line as we NEVER use it.0 -
Hi .. Guys I find again VM have sneakily hiked up their prices again . another £5.00 plus recent increases..
So its the final straw for me.. after poor service and spending half my
precious home time speaking with Mr Patel and his friends in Bombay
who correctly sorted me out after freezes / crashes etc... Ive given VM the deep six and its adios I dont download films or large files just want a good honest service So I can get all of what I want on Sky plus a lot more channels and its cheaper.... Adios to Virgin0 -
I've just signed up for the £120 pre payment of the line rental (we want to keep our landline) and have got a refund on the current month's line rental that I'd paid a couple of weeks ago. All went through smoothly and has saved us nearly £60 on the year. Our monthly bill is now £48 for broadband, tv and call charges (only use landline on weekends!) so quite happy with that - despite the initial outlay of £120. Will probably do the same next year.0

Virgin Media's line rental saver, which allows customers to pay upfront for a year's line rental at a discounted price of £120, saving £60/year compared to its standard line rental, will also increase to £128 from 1 February.
If you want to stay with Virgin Media, you should lock into its line rental saver before 1 February while it's still only £120.
I'm confused about this talk about £120 up front as I've just signed into my account on Virgin Media, and they are charging £128??
How do I get the £120?
Any advice or info gratefully received0
