Woolworths patio heater, 1/2 price at £50. Reduced again! (merged)

Hi all, bought one of these heaters in Woolies yesterday. It is not a Quartz heater as described on this board. It is the same as the old 3 bar electric heaters although at this money it is not a bad buy.

Quartz heaters give an instant heat same as a Solar Hob whereas this heater has to warm up first.

It says QUARTZ in the manual i received in mine?

Does it have to heat up gradually or come on with a high heat immediately, 1-2 seconds.

Is this the only patio heater Woolies do at this price. I bought one yesterday and although it seems good it is only like a 3 bar electric fire. Maybe they do another quartz type. Does anybody know? Thanks for the tip by the way. I bought the patio heater, a man's mountain bike - got a portable gas bar-b-cue all for 85 quid, using 10% off and three for two. Great site by the way.

Hi. What are your opinions on patio heaters: gas or electric? Are they worth having, or now that you've got them, do you regret spending the money? I have heard people say that these gas heaters heat your head but leave your feet cold and are not very comfortable! How does this fit with your experience? Are the gas ones expensive to run? how long does a bottle of gas last? How do these electric heaters compare? Thanks.

I bought an electric one because they were much cheaper to buy, and cheaper to run (I think about 10p per hour compared to £1 per hour for gas heaters). I used mine twice this weekend in the evening, and although one is only enough to keep 2 people warm, if you have 3 of them going at once the heat is great and it can keep everyone round a table nicely warm, much better than the gas ones that friends have.

In my opinion though, I think the gas ones look a lot nicer, but for the more expensive initial outlay, the higher running costs, the gas bottle you have to pay to hire and then keep filling, I would recommend these electric heaters everytime.

Thats a good deal!
Glad I got mine from woolies when it was buy 2 get 1 free - Works out at £33.30 ish each. HOWEVER - they are NO WHERE near as hot as the gas patio heater I have already..
BUT - they are GREAT for using under a Gazeebo (they don't set fire to it!) A great addition to the gas heater - but think you need 2 of them to be usefull.
