I had a similar issue a few weeks back - I always address and stamp on the right side (as is usual postcard protocol!) and put my answer (if asked), name and address details always written sideways on the left side.
I thought, to save time, I would print off some name/addr labels which I glued on (again turned sideways) where I would normally write my details, and they were also smaller font than the hand-written comp address. For whatever reason, these postcards were posted back to me!!! I immediately stopped using the printed addr labels and have returned to the more laborious, but safer, hand-written method. No problems since :j I also made a complaint to the post office and eventually got sent a pack of 6 first class stamps as compensation

HTH
Hi guys
I was getting my postcards back a few years ago and I complained at my local sorting office several times.
Then I watched a documentary about Royal Mail Sorting Offices.
Fortunately this showed the machines reading the address which ever way up it is written, stamp or no stamp.
I say fortunately because, ever since then I put my address as:-
123 my lane
my town
postcode
County.
or
123 my lane
my town
County
postcode
phone number
This way the machines can't read the PO code, which then sends the letter to get hand sorted.
Touch wood I've never had any returned since that day.
