Rehoming a dog

If he's advertised on sites like Gumtree, he could probably be taken for fighting:(:("You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I always advise people to never, NEVER, NEVER consider a getting a puppy or ANY dog from Gumtree - and Tesco/Asda/Co-op regularly take down any adverts for animals from their notice boards.
The reason why I do this? Because this is where the puppy farmers/back yard greedy breeders and people who consider animals to be disposable commodities offload their trash/rubbish/unwanted animals
Sadly, it would seem that this poor dog, through no fault of its own, might have reached the end of its life
But actually - will that be such a bad thing? Its had one hell of a life and dog lover/owner that I am, would feel that it has learnt so much distrust of humans, that I could not trust it.
Sometimes death is not such a bad option
It gives release.
Thats really depressing.0 -
Yes, I saw on FB there's a couple of bull terriers just turned up at a rescue that have been used as bait dogs. Whether they're going to be safe to rehome is debateable. I just look at them and think it could have been gitdog. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Well I wish I'd not stumbled into this thread. I feel so saddened by the comments and experiences of folk here; I'd not realised just how many dreadful people there are who not only abuse dogs, but ruin them so they can't even learn to trust human beings again.
OP, if the selfish cow is planning to tie the poor animal up and leave it, I'm inclined to think it's enough to be thankful she's planning to abandon it outside a rescue centre. There's plenty who would just leave the poor thing at the side of the road.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

At least if that's what she does, the poor thing may get a decent last meal and maybe even a nice walk and a ball thrown for it a few times before being euthanised.
I'd like to think so, anyway.0 -
zaksmum - one last hope for this dog - it may have been taught to be aggressive - but most staffies absolutely love humans while hating other dogs - mine did - tho she did learn to 'ignore' them. if a rescue did take it and do and assessment - it may be perfectly ok to rehome to a person. who understands the staffy dislike of other dogs.
I am wanting to take this dog myself - but my cat would never forgive me! I feel so torn. I feel so sorry for this poor dog and wish I could give him a home.0 -

Yes it is - but sadly, the future for dogs like this poor chap are extremely limited. Bred for cash - with no thought for temperament - there are far too many dogs like this out there - the death of the little girl last week shows what can happen
I do so wish that people would think before they breed their dogs

.
I agree with this. Our rescue staffie hated other dogs and would growl and snap but after a lot of hard work and training she now sees another dog and sits down in front of me for a treat.
She is the most loving dog I've ever had and just wants to please.
If I ever get another dog it will be a staffie.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
But the poor dog is only two years old. How can that be the end of his life? I'm just gutted for him.
This must happen a lot, where an owner is sent to prison and there's a dog at home that nobody wants.
Really sad.0 -

I agree. Infact, 'status' dogs often tend to be pretty good with humans - because you get the idiots who want their dog to walk perfectly beside them without a lead, who get taken everywhere as their 'mascot' as such, and because the pride/ego of these kinds of people means they probably wouldn't put up with a dog that had no interest in pleasing their owner.
Many Staffies have issues with dog reactivity or aggression, and manage to find homes. Not saying it's easy, but I don't think this dog's background would make it totally unsuitable to home. I volunteered for a Staffie rescue for a while and many of the Staffs had issues, but very few weren't rehomable at all (and that's saying something, since this rescue was sort of the last chance saloon, taking in dogs that had been refused space elsewhere and so on)0
