Hi all,
We've written a new guide to Online Dating and we'd love your feedback - are there any sites you'd recommend, or any other tips you'd like to pass on? Have you got any success stories, or dating horror stories - or any funny online dating anecdotes you can share? If so, just click 'reply' to post,
Thanks,
MSE Rose

Thought it was worth letting people know if you have the mobile app for Match.com you can subscribe for 1 week at £4.99 - I haven't seen it advertised anywhere which is annoying but it is definitely more affordable then the monthly prices - especially if your new to it all and want to see if the website is for you and if there are any hotties in your area before you commit to monthly subscription.0

I have been on several dating sites over the years (looking for Mr. Right) and one thing that I find irritating when men write their comments or make the first move - is that they write everything in CAPITALS - why? Its as if they are shouting - or perhaps are not computer literate. Could it be that their personality is coming through on their finger tips? or are they just heavy handed?
This is merely an observation of course0 -
You can also go via Quidc0 to go on match.com or dating direct!!!!
You just need to go into online dating with an open mind... don't necessarily aim for someone with the same hobbies/interests. I met my now fiance on match.com...on paper we had very different hobbies and interests...yet when we met, we clicked instantly. We have actually now found new hobbies together as well as shared with each other things we had never done before - I am now a keen fan of mushing, he now enjoys listening to Einaudi
I went on several online dates in the end...I did go in with an open mind as to who I might meet, it certainly was a confidence boost and showed there are some great people out there all in the same boat.
I think match.com will feature in the wedding speeches somehow...!:rotfl:0 -
Just Jewish and Christian specialist sites? I know it would be silly to list all of the options but what about other popular religions such as Muslim.
ps. not religious myself.0 -

There are a couple of muslim sites like singlemuslim.com, shaadi.com etc but they don't seem as good as the ones aimed at non-muslims. Not many muslims sign up to these types of sites unfortunately.0 -
I would suggest making sure you don't discount people that seem too much like the extremes of your personality, because to yourself, you're quite normal!
This advice comes after me discounting someone on PoF, because I thought he looked "too wacky". Luckily, we happened to be introduced by a mutual friend who thought we may get on (it was only after a few dates he said his PoF name and I recalled him), and now we're married!
Tips - for the love of Pete, use a current picture! 75% of the dates I went on from online sites, the people turned out to be 10 years older than their pic. Why? Why are you only setting up the other person for potential disappointment? Why would you go on a date with someone when you know they not becoming attracted to the real you? It's bonkers!0 -
Unfair 1. POF is not for a Casual flings (as per description)...Marcus (owner) would be very unhappy at this as they actively advertise the happy endings... And I'm certainly not after a quick fling!:A
Unfair 2. EHarmony your status can't be 'Separated' no matter how many years...tell lies or don't bother with the hours of filling in your profile before they tell you this!
Catfish tip...fake pic? Right click image, copy image URL, paste into Google images and search...very interesting outcomes and save you wasting a evening with an outcast!:eek:0 -
I would also disagree with the POF casual flings description
I met my partner on there nearly 2 years ago and neither of us would call that a casual fling! Same goes for several couples I know who met on thereThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
TBH, I think ALL online sites have the casual fling/married men issue. HOWEVER places like PoF get mentioned more as there is no charge.
So on the whole people will congregate there. Where as paid places, like MATCH you get the more serious dater. Although you also get the more wealthier married men....
That's my opinion, but I wouldn't say all men on PoF are flings or whatever.0
