You've had some excellent suggestions on here, but my overriding feeling is that she has more than enough stuff so at 5, I would go for a (financially) light year.

I would consider an experience: trampolining, water park with slide, ice skating, zoo, theatre? Are you anywhere near Paultons Park (Hampshire)? It's brilliant for a day out and has the infamous Peppa Pig world too. I wouldn't be encouraging anything along the computer game line though, especially at such a young age; count your blessings!

I went Xmas/birthday shopping yesterday with a friend whose daughter is about to turn 6. She is very girly and is getting a gorgeous tutu and pink stereo (£39 Bush from Argos I think) for her bedroom (audio books?) if that helps.

Mine were very into Sylvanians at that age. And dolls/teddies. New outift?

In answer to your question: a skateboard for one and don't know yet for the other.

ETA: please don't spend money just because. It's clear to me that a main present isn't needed at the moment, so I encourage you not to think about 'what can I buy for £50-100, but 'what can I buy that she'll love and isn't too big to store.'

How about a day trip to Lapland then?

    Or the English version?

My two daughters both love crafty sets and you can get these cheap so these would be ideal for the little extra presents. Also if she is into girly bits like mine, they love playing house and their little elc washing machine , microwave that looks as though its working, toy iron, washing line etc they both love. Also anything barbie, ponys, disney princess should go down well. You could get her a furby or the lucy dog? My daughters have asked for these. For a main present, the things my girls like: child friendly tablet, portable dvd player, their own pretty table and chair set.
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
  • Onlyroz, I'm like you a tomboy with a girly daughter!

At 5 my DD loved the Disney Princess Dress Up dresses, you can get ones that are reversible.

Just Dance Kids for the Wii which DD adores. Short songs easy dances.
Proud to be dealing with my debts
    DD Katie born April 2007!
3 years 9 months and proud of it

My daughter loves the Designafriend dolls at Argos. They're more like little girls, rather than the hookerish Bratz or perhaps slightly creepy baby dolls.

You can get a doll, outfit and accessories for £29.97 and other outfits are available if you want to buy any other bits and pieces.

I didn't want my daughter to have dolls for feminist reasons, however she played with them and wanted them every time she saw them in a toy shop or at nursery, then turned her Teletubbies into effective 'babies' so I gave up on this ideal. She's 11 now and still loves her dolls. I was more into My Little Ponies but she never really took to these ones.

My son likes to play with the dolls too and will even humour me and play with My Little Ponies from time to time!

There's nothing inherently wrong or anti-feminist about playing with dolls. What's a problem is the idea that all little girls should, and all little boys shouldn't.

I never took to any dolls, I played out all my 'nurturing' on toy animals and had enough stuffed and plastic ones to fill a zoo. My brother had a doll he adored though. As adults, I have a car that permanently stinks of wet dog and he's a doting dad with car seats and a thousand crumbs in the back of his!

Or how about a club membership? Last year my two got a term at football / dancing club as joint present from their Aunts. To unwrap, one had a mini football and the other some ballet pumps.

Street dance is popular these days. Or swimming lessons? And no clutter!!!

Why are you asking complete strangers what your own child would like?
Why don't you spend some time with her and the Argos catalogue or at Toys R us and find out what she likes.

The 'main' presents that I have bought my DD this year are an innotab 3s and the Vtech Kidizoom plus camera.

I was struggling to think of things to get her as she doesn't really seem 'in' to anything in particular. But went for these things as she loves playing games on my Ipad and taking pictures on my Iphone. Those obviously weren't suitable for a little girl but hopefully she likes her presents :D

The rest of her stuff is mainly made up of craft stuff and play-doh. She likes messy play, dolls don't really keep her attention.
