More blatant shilling

I have been offered a second chance offer on something from blatant shiller - I was the only bidder and this shill account has bid cautiously again me until they went over my bid. It's the same vendor that another poster mentioned, and I linked to their account too when I saw what they were up to when I lost an item they were selling before.

Tbh, I'm so peed off about this that I'm tempted to send them an email telling them where to stuff their second chance offer but I'd prefer to do something more contructive - I've not got much faith in ebay taking action. So ideas any one?

    do nothing.

They will have to pay for the ebay commision, pp fee's and still not have sold the items.
    Very annoying for them!

Alternativily if you want the item, offer a more sensible price.

OP doesn't need to 'offer a sensible price'. They offered that when they bid, and if a sellers daft enough to shill then maybe they are best avoided. OP see if you can find a better seller with the item you want.

As for fees, if it is a shill they will just do a mutual cancellation, so all they lose if anything, is a listing fee.

Tbh, I'm not really bothered with this item, I saw it late one night and thought my boy might like it and didn't look at who the vendor was. I doubt it is anything particularly desirable in the history of video games or other people would have been interested in it.

And get an NPB strike? I can't see that helping the op at all.

That other poster would be me:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4803188
and since I started that thread I have been watching the seller/shiller in question and shill bidding has been going on with every single item listed.
I have also reported every listing and as expected, ebay have done nothing about it.

In these cases it's not uncommon for the seller to ask you for your maximum bid as the second chance price. E.g. if the shill account was bidding by £10 increments, then you might see something like this:

shill £101 (increment over your bid)
    you £100
    shill £100
    shill £90
    shill £80
    shill £70
    other bidder £60
    (etc.)

In this case, the seller might send you a second chance offer of £100. But, if the shill bidder hadn't been there, you might have won the item for £61 (or some increment).

If I received a second chance offer in this situation, I would respond with an offer of £61, saying that since the 'winner' didn't complete the sale, that the fair selling price would have been £61. I wouldn't expect a seller to accept that. But on the other hand if I paid £100, then the seller would have succeeded in ripping me off.

Just dropped in because I've been reporting some fantastically blatant shilling. Absolutely nothing has been done, of course.

I wonder if a TV programme such as Watchdog would ever look into shill bidding. Ebay don't like bad publicity, I believe.

I wonder if we can start a thread here where suspected shilling examples are described. (Solely as the opinion of the poster of course). Then, if others agree that this is shilling, the seller is reported. We then watch over time to see if the seller is banned, the item is removed, or any other censure is noticed. Over time, very useful information could be gathered which would show for sure exactly how serious ebay takes reports of shilling.

Without the shill bidding I would have got it for 99p as there was no other real bidder. But it was a cheap toy anyway. If the seller hadn't caught my eye with their practices I'd have been happy to pay £5 and a few pence - we are not talking big sums here :)

I think the idea of lookin out for dodgy sellers here is a good idea. Dishonesty on both sides of the buying/selling equation spoils the trust in the marketplace.

Perhaps a sticky for this, and a sticky for 'One to add to the blocked buyers list' could be created.

This has been tried before on other site and ebay put a stop to it.
