Putting up the tree.

So pleased to be of assistance Mrs Christmas:j. I used to work in a garden centre and I miss all the lovely Christmassy atmosphere and excitement around helping families choose their tree, whichever type.
I can see why you are considering buying an artificial tree this year, £50:eek: was a lot of money when the Nordman didn't live up to your expectations.
But DO try and get to a garden centre if there is one near where you live. You should ask for a Norway Spruce (or Picea Abies, that'll throw 'em lol) !!
I paid £30 last year for a five footer.
When you get the tree home, saw an inch or so off the bottom, as the tree will have sealed itself up since it was 'harvested'.
I have to admit, besides having a real tree we do have an artificial one in another room. It's not a particularly big room so I got a narrow one from Mr T's online at a very reasonable price and I am very pleased with it.
hth, enjoy!!

I have always gone for the non-drop trees, but as a couple of you have mentioned. The smell is so dissapointing. However, I do love the look of the thick needles with its perfect little xmas tree shape. Hmmm... I'll shop around this year and get smelling some trees (hehe).
There is a place in Birmingham where you can actually cut down your own tree!!! (I think its Birmingham, I'll have to double check). But basically you get a choice of whether to chop your own or pick one from a ready made pile. I was so excited when I saw it last year, I was heavily preggers at the time though so didn't fancy it. I'm off to search for it now. I'll post link if I can find it x
Edit. There are a few xmas tree farms over the UK. Have a nose on google and you'll find the lists. I am so excited now. Our closest one is still over an hours drive but its so going to be worth it!! xThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Ours will hopefully go up on December 1st. The week before however the decs will come down from the loft and I usually try and do a bit of prep the week before the 1st due to the length of time it usually takes.0

Mine will go up on the 23rd November this year. It is normally the last weekend of November but we get married on that final weekend so I will put the decorations up early. They will stay up until January 6th. My t6ft real tree cost me £40 last year so I like to get my moneysworth.0

The true meaning of Christmas is different for everyone though. ie, for some it's religious, but religion pays zero part in my Christmas.
Easter Eggs before Christmas is quite odd though! Is he selling off last year's?:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0 -
mine goes up when i have had time to properly deep clean the front room in the week before christmas, this will vary depending on what else i have got to do. my parents tree and decs go up on the 22nd of december each year once their birthdays are out the way (19th & 21st).Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Our tree usually goes up when we feel like it or if one of the grandchildren is around to help because we happen to be babysitting!! But never usually in the first week or so - it's too soon! but it's always down by the 6th of January.
SwampyExpect the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes!!:o0 -
Ours went up yesterday
A 5 footer in the hall, 6 footer in the dining room, 8 footer in the living room and a smaller 3 footer for the top of the stairs.
Forgot to add the vintage 3 footer I have on my windowsill
All outside lights went up too. I've been having to watch xmas adverts for weeks now so I can't see why peoples individual choice to put their decorations up whenever they want should cause others to get all uppity!!
Our house looks colourful, festive and more to the point most surfaces are covered with ornaments so dusting will be kept to a minimum0
