Also the test for my children was to hold your hand out and introduce yourself to an imaginary person. Hello nice to meet you, my name is XXXXX. When we did it when our children were born we tried Ella for our daughter, but found it sounded a little lame. I couldn't help myself sounding very childish. I also couldn't hear myself saying it over 100 times a day.
Try calling the name, you will be doing it a lot!0 -
I like Daisy
And I like Isabelle, because I like 'Izzy'make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Congratulations!
I think it's very hard to say without knowing the surname, but Ella is the only name I like from those names, although it's a bit too popular for me.
I'm sure you'll love whichever name you choose; babies have a habit of growing into them.0 -
For me, Bella. x0

This is not very helpful, but when I was at school (50 yrs ago) I had a friend called Bella - she was known as belly button, and grew up being called Button for the rest of her life.
Button is a fantastic nickname. As she got older people might has assumes it was because she was as bright as a....or as cute as a....
Lots of my friends go by 5their nicknames, and I think the ones like that are lovlie than the common abbreviations.0 -
Daisy a little girl's name only? My nan was Daisy Isobel, she's been dead over 10 years and was 80-odd so it's an 'older lady' name to me0

Some Eleanors get called Norma as well. Never heard of anyone called Eleanor being called anything apart from that or Elle. But its not really a common name up here (Scotland) these days. Know a few people who have called their kids Ellie.
I quite like the name Elle, better than Ella, Bella or Daisy.
Tbh, I think its better to pick a name that cant be shortened as a lot of people get saddled with a shortened version of their name and they dont like it.
In Wales, long names get shortened (whether you want them to or not) and short names lengthened (whether you want them to or not)!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I rather like the idea of imagining the name for a female barrister, or something similar.
So I'd go for Isobel/Isabelle or Eleanor, shortened by you when she's little , then she's free to choose the full version when she's older.
My daughters is a teacher, and in Reception you can't move for Ellas and Daisys.0 -
Ella (though I prefer Elle myself). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
