Give it time and the "50% off for 12 months" offers will soon arrive in the post.

They want customers, even if it's getting customers back on the cheap in the hope that 12 months down the line they can hike them back to full package costs
  • Think you will find the 50% off is for the main box subscription only and NOT all of your bill

So no discount off a multiroom box etc

Waiting to see if they offer me a 75% off! maybe with that offer I'll go back.

Otherwise in January I'll be signing up to virgin

If you're prepared to chop and change suppliers you can get new customer deals every year.

I predict you'll be going to Virgin in the New year.

Cancelled with Sky couple of days ago. Got a call for same deal as MSE 50% but for six months. Asked could he do any better he said that's the best he could do. Said I needed to think about it. He said can I phone you back early next week. I said sure...

I don't mind changing suppliers at all

  • Freesat+ is brilliant. I gave up Sky and switched to a Humax Freesat PVR box. Saved myself about £500 per year on Sky for a one-off £300 outlay. Records all the usual stuff (her indoors records mainly soaps etc.) and with the money I saved can rent a movie per week on iTunes and still much better off!
  • We quit Sky in September after an offer of 25% for three months. We got a letter (think we'd disabled the contact us by phone thing) saying sorry you're leaving after a few weeks which we ignored. In November we got an offer of 50% off any package for a year valid till the end of December.

I think we won't bother. On the advice of MSE posters (thank you!) we got a Humax which records the youview channels. That's enough for us now. If we got a 75% off offer we'd probably go for it but that seems unlikely. So if you're hoping for a deal it seems worth waiting.

Also, make sure you allow them to contact you by phone if you're happy to negotiate with them.

Well, you can't get that channel in HD with Virgin (and there are other notable absences from cable, not even available in SD). Do check before you leap to change supplier.

If you are in an area which is lucky enough to have both Virgin & Sky, than you can chop and change every year for the latest new customer deals and cash-back offers.

Indeed you can, but the vast majority can't be bothered with the hassle.
