Just quit Sky. What next ?

  • I paid an eye-watering £2.75 p/m :D, just coming to the end of the year. Just on the entertainment extra package. Hardly watch tv myself, just the wife and kids.

Look out for 50% codes and combine these with topcashback/quidco offers - this worked well for me last year.

Don't know how people pay £50+ for sky! - oops, did I say that out loud! :)

    i would never get sky.
  • We got offered similar in their last roll of the dice with us. I asked them to throw in free HD and a multiroom and I would take it at £35 in our case, but they said they couldn't.

It went off last week and no calls yet. However I am sure there will be but to be honest am not particularly bothered if they don't. It was nice to have it totally free for 11 months but I've bought a new Freesat Freetime+ box and it's a good bit of kit.

Well the call came, 75% off for 12 months, £14.75 for Ent Extra+ with sports and movies. Snatched their hand off, added Multiroom for the adult kids and got HD back also at a discount. So £32 in total, after them wanting £37 for the TV Pack only 10 days ago.

It really is one big game. Play hardball, leave and they always come to the party.

See it from Sky's point though, once the blaggers are out the way happy with their 10-20% off, those that have actually quit still have the equipment but they are getting 0 return from that house. So it's a massive loss leader, something is better than nothing. But you must actually leave, it is that simple.

I cancelled sky and now have YouView wth BT. Costs me £5 a month, pretty good and don't miss sky to much. Better than the £40 a month with sky. Although I have had half price deals etc with Sky for months and months. It ended and they would not give me further discounts so I left.

I'm reading this thread with interest as I put in my 31 days notice and we are due to leave Sky on 12th December (need to keep watching the recorded programmes before we lose it!). I cancelled because my husband lost his job but he has just got a new one. It's still early days so I don't want to be tied into a new 12 month minimum contract so I'm quite willing to watch just the free channels that will be available on the Sky box after the 31 days notice is up but if we are offered a cheap deal with no contract tie-in we could consider it. I know I'll miss the pause/rewind/record feature! Keeping my fingers crossed we get a few phone calls.

My sky is due to end today so it will be a waiting game for their call hopefully they will come in with an offer like your 75% off is good
  • hi guys, ive had sky 3 years and last year when we decided we wasnt going to pay the £90 a month they gave us the half price for 12 months deal after i initially cancelled and a week before it ended they phoned me up however this year i cancelled a month today and i said no to the deals they was giving me for 6 months etc but i wanted 12 months again and the lady told me this time retentions wouldnt phone me as sky have got rid of that!
now today comes and my sky package has turned off and im watching bbc lol, actually getting something out my tv licence!, but will they phone me and try and take me back as ive still got the equipment surely its silly for them to not have me as its only gonna cost them in the service down the line they need to provide rather than have a guy come and fit a new aerial and box etc?
at the worst time of the year too lol, not sure whether to ring them or wait for them to hopefully call me or start looking elsewhere?

I cancelled last month following a couple of calls and poor offers (was on full tv package plus phone and broadband) and not received any follow up offers or contact from them since the switch off. As a customer of Sky's for 14 years i'm disappointed that the offers that have been made to some of the forumites in this thread havent been extended to me! We move house next month though so new address and my wife can be the named customer to get the offers!

I'm afraid it costs Sky nothing as they don't provide "service down the line" as the satellite beams a signal which your dish receives in the same manner as an aerial on your roof would receive TV.
I agree it's in Sky's interests for you to remain a customer ,though, and it's highly likely they'll start sending you offers to return in the post in a few weeks.

If you ring them asking to return, however, then they will be under no obligation to offer you any kind of deal and your cancellation strategy will have been futile.
