We quit Sky just over 2 years ago, after having 50% off for the last year.
After a couple of weeks we had 3 phone calls over one weekend alone offering 50% off. I asked Sky to throw in a HD box too, but they wouldn't so we never bothered.
50% off now is still £465 a year, without the discount a shocking £930 a year.
So we've either saved £1860+ or £930+ depending if we'd had deals or not.
That must be over £1000 a year if you've got HD and multiroom
We're finally thinking of getting a Humax <freetime> box, mainly for the recording facilities.0 -
Books! Some great deals on this time of year as well :-)0

We've just got a 2nd one, they are only £159 for "A Grade" product from humaxdirect. Looks brand new to me and comes with 12 months warranty. Like you we were almost paying that monthly with all our Multirooms, broadband and phone with $ky.
OP, did you let it lapse in the end? Our last free period went dark yesterday. Sky seem to have got a bit sneaky, we've only had one phone call since we opted to cancel, but he wouldn't offer what I wanted. They have though sent lots of "sorry you are leaving" e-mails, if there is anything we can do to make you stay please ring us. They are obviously weeding out the "blaggers".
So for now we are back to Freesat, but this new freetime box is cracking. But I'm sure the phone will ring between now and Xmas from Mr Murdocks minions with a decent offer again.0 -

It's a tricky one then, people who ring are normally just thought of as the "blaggers" and you won't see the best deals.
...
Like I said you get good deals but you must leave. Not sure how their contact rules apply when you have left though? Do they still have to follow your preferences as technically you are no longer a customer?
My Sky was due to end on 28th Nov and as I said when I checked my contact preferences the phone contact wasn't ticked - should have looked before I cancelled, but didn't.
Anyway I received an email from Sky this morning titled:
"Your final cancellation details" with a paragraph near the end saying:
"It's not too late to change your mind. We'll miss you and don't want any of our customers to leave, so we'd like you to consider staying with Sky TV to enjoy: TV from Sky on the move with Sky Go. Access to the UK's widest choice of HD channels. The Sky+ box with easy to use recording and rewind. We're sure we can find a deal to keep you enjoying your Sky subscription – just call us on
08442 411 914 to give us a try before you leave. "
So I just rang them and they offered me the same deal (not quite half price for HD, Sports & Entertainment Extra) as before for 12 months with no tie-in - good enough for me, couldn't face Christmas without Sky & Sky Sports, lol!
Edit: Doh! Got the channels wrong wanted Entertainment Extra+ - so rang back and now I've Sports, Movies & EE+ for £31/month for 12 months - less than before! Result. Thank you Victoria at Sky!0 -

We got offered similar in their last roll of the dice with us. I asked them to throw in free HD and a multiroom and I would take it at £35 in our case, but they said they couldn't.
It went off last week and no calls yet. However I am sure there will be but to be honest am not particularly bothered if they don't. It was nice to have it totally free for 11 months but I've bought a new Freesat Freetime+ box and it's a good bit of kit.
I can still watch the other stuff by other means0 -
I cancelled Sky last May as they wouldn't give us any reductions. About 3 months after cancelling they regularly sent us 50% discount vouchers. I accepted 6 months free subscription and sky movies this time last year with no tie-in. When the offer expired in April I called Sky to cancel. I was offered 25% off for 12 months to stay, but as my sky box was temperamental I asked if they would replace or repair it at no cost, but they refused.
I then continued to get 50% off offers most months until a couple of weeks ago when Sky called me with a very tempting offer. They offered me the 50% off for 12 months again but when I explained about my sky box they immediately offered me a brand new 2TB box, new sky+ HD box for multi-room and engineer visits - all free of charge, along with £50 credit. I am very pleased with this and this will cost me £35 a month as I chose Entertainment Extra and movies with multi-room.0 -
My current TV only contract with expires 11th of December and I cancelled over email, got a call today. The lady would only offer me 20% discount over the current for TV+movies to which I said no and asked her to put a note on my account to let the 31 day notice roll.
I am not sure if I will get a call from anyone or not? Wait and watch I suppose - the 31 days completes on the 24th of December so we still have sometime left to go.0 -
my sky expired 17 th December i rang to cancel on the 17 th november , i had the half price deal from Martin @ £10.75, after about 4 days they rang every day ...today i answered and got the same package for £13.98 so not too badthe truth is out there ... on these pages !!0
