My Jersualem artichokes are almost 3 foot tall already, it will be interesting to see how big they get."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Clive Woody - Yes, most tomatoes will grow up to six feet tall - certainly my Gardeners Delight, Moneymaker, Alicante all reach this height grown when planted outside in a border. If you want shorter plants you will have to nip out the main growing point after the second truss of flowers appears but then you will lose half your potential crop. The only other alternative is to growing the Tumbler type tomatoes which are short and bushy and whichcan be grown in deep hanging baskets or patio containers.0

Well you can have bush tomatoes as well as the tumbler type, I have grown gardeners delight as a bush as it works fine, I'm growing one in my DD's small bed this year and I shall let it form 3 trusses then allow it to grow on one leaf joint off to one side (pinch out the others and let that form one truss supported on another cane, so its off the bed and not shading the other plants.
Well thats the plan anyway
But what I mean is that you can stop tomatoes whenever you like, or let them go rampant.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Probably of no interest to anyone but me, but I found my first tomato and four baby cucumbers earlier this week! :j I know it's daft to get excited by things like this, but I do.

I'm a tomato-growing newbie too - I got the plants a week or so ago and they aren't dead yet, so that's something!0
