Partially Satisifed... is this ok

For anyone else with more ken: I have heard of debt collection agencies chasing old debts that they have got/bought from banks. Abbey may not chase for the debt, but could the sell it on or are they not going to allow anyone to take this further? Just showing my ignorance with this query, but interested to know.
If they will sell statute barred debts on to these collection agencies, they will surely sell partial settlements on.
They might put it on hold for a period of time, but eventually they will try to resurrect the debt in the hope that your financial position has changed. They are, at the end of the day, purely set on getting their money back.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Come now TROLL its well known on these boards that you will say anything to support a DCA seeing as you work for one :rolleyes:0 -

No, not really, but I assume that you don't mind being referred to as a bitter ex-debt collector and TROLL.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I'm sure they must tell you the difference between settling a debt for a lesser sum and leaving the file open. The OP could find that Abbey sells the remaining debt to someone else, and then what concession has she had? It wouldn't give me peace of mind.
OK simply remove the word 'full' then and I have already explained that they do not sell these debts on.0 -
hello
I am in, or near being in a similar situation to Wannabesaver but with multiple lenders and DCAs
Aktiv Capital / GEC Capital have offered me a partial settlement and as I am not envisaging wishing to obtain credit for (at least!) six years, the probable restrictions a partial settlement brings (as helpfully outlined by Keren) don't seem a problem for my personal situation.
As a follow up to telephone calls (and of course as a preclude to paying the settlements!) I am also hoping to receive written confirmation of my full and final offers to Cabot Financial /Citicard and HSBC Card Services/Metropolitan Collection Services. Does anyone have any views on whether these companies are likely to offer full or partial settlement, and if partial, if there are any hazards lurking particular to these companies.
Confirmation in writing from the above has not been particularly speedy i.e. letters which they say were posted more than a week ago have not arrived. If anyone has any particular advice as to how to ensure post arrives and/or if this indication of some ulterior strategy on their part and/o if a fax is acceptable then I would love to hear that too.
thanks very much0
