OK people PLEASE stop the back & forward snipes. Can you all just let it go & get back to the point please! Fine, give your individual opinions but agree to disagree if you have to!
As for th OP I have no idea (& dont claim to!) but having been trying (& failing miserably!) to get out of debt for a while I dont trust banks as far as I can throw them! While the elation of getting rid of some of the debt is tempting I really think you should listen to the word of caution about it being on your credit file for years! Hope you resolve this and am really sorry that your thread has been hijacked in the way it has which is of no helpt you at all!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! In the OP's position, I would push for this to be a 'full and final settlement' as there's no security that the bank's position regarding partially settled debt won't change in the future. Also, the entry will stay on the credit file for 6 years and may cause problems in the future.
I can't see that Abbey are actually doing anything useful for the OP. They're 'accepting' £15k towards the debt and marking the file 'partially paid'. What use is that? It's a debt that's due to them so of course they're going to accept the money, and the money doesn't pay off the entire debt, so it's 'partially paid' big deal. It doesn't sound as though they're going to put in writing that they won't chase it. Also, if the balance of the debt's repayable in the future when OP's circumstances change, who decides that? Will Abbey keep checking every now and again?Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
Debt free success date: 14.8.2006 :j0 -
If they accept it as F+F they won't check back to see if the OP's situation has changed. It is done and finished but the credit entry will just be lefting 'hanging' as partially satisfied for 6 years.

How many of you trust DCA's?
So why would it be any different to one who posts on here?
Take every word with a pinch of salt and seek proper professional advice.0 -

It would seem that our resident T Roll has acted as usual. And in the typical manner that employees of DCA's tend to behave. They have a condescending, pompous and sanctimonious attitude, deviate from the truth, mislead and misinform.
Any DCA is hardly likely to give you any information that is going to be to your benefit, only their own.
Some of T Rolls posts can be informative, but he/she is not infallible.*
Throwing personal insults and a generally aggressive posts, to me, show a weak and cowardly individual. Perhaps a career in debt collecting is entirely appropriate.

post number 8.
You need to check your facts; I have not worked in the dca world for some time now. I only post on here to counter the tripe that is grossly misleading and could be a disaster for those genuinely looking for help. There are a minority on here whose sole purpose seems to be to discredit the lending/dca world as often as possible and sod the poor people who are their instruments.0 -

Well done

Since you appear to take great delight in contesting the accuracy of most of my posts, could you please check the accuracy of your own statements, BEFORE attempting to discredit me, or other posters who are genuinely trying to point people in the right direction.
Perhaps if you were more careful in checking your own information, rather than monotonously purporting the position of an 'industry' that is completely oblivious to the individual circumstances of debtors, and alleged debtors, then your posts may be viewed with a small amount of credibility.
Any further such references to me will be viewed as libellous and reported to the relevant authorities.
What should I now refer to you as the 'Discharged Bankrupt' - there, there does that feel better.
Nice Submariner by the way - I have one just like it.0 -

OK - the OP can of course ask for the file to be marked as 'Satisfied' but as I have already stated it is highly unlikely they will get it.
As for what the Abbey are doing that is useful - well surely the fact that the OP can take advantge of a significantly reduced settlement and not be chased for the remainig balance is very useful. Their credit file will already be ruined anyway and having it marked as 'settled' wont make any real difference. I also know that for accounts like this the remaining balance is 'written off' (if it hasn't been already) and moved to a holding queue where it wont be actioned again or sold on.
I do firmly agree though that it is well worth getting this all confirmed in writing.0 -
