Partially Satisifed... is this ok

Wannabe - Please, please, please check out the real, legal, difference between 'partially satisfied' and 'full and final settlement'.
Listen to CCCS - do you, honestly think that Abbey will 'forget' the rest of a debt that is only 'partially satisfied?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

DFW Nerd # 166 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
you may be suffering overload here but i'll add my comments:
two different things.
firstly
the promise/commitment that the deal is a final settlement and that no more money will ever be demanded. you need this in writing and to be absolutely clear.
secondly
the commitment to mark your credit file as 'settled' rather than 'partial settled'.
the first is vital the second is nice to have (and since it isn't actually true ) you may have to settle for partially settled.
so what does your letter actually say?0 -

Agree with Clapton's first point - what does the letter say and can you ask them to confirm that no further action will be taken just as a safety precaution.
Regarding the second point, I have had countless conversations/arguments with the most senior people in their debt management department and they just will not budge - for what it's worth I think they miss a good opportunity to settle far more than they do.0 -
Hi, dont know if this helps or not , but, from my experiance I found that it was easier to get a full and final settlement after the debt had been handed over from the bank (Barclays in my case) to a debt collection agency.
You must make sure you get full and final settlement and get the letter to confirm this. I have not heard of Partial Settlement but dont like the sound of it.Dmp Mutual Support thread member No 820 -

Well done - a bankrupt with little or no experience. Have you had debt problems perchance ?0 -
We don't tend to speak to each other in that manner on this board....you may have a differing opinion, or even specialist knowledge of the subject, but a little less aggression would be appreciated.Tootsie_Roll wrote: »Well done - a bankrupt with little or no experience. I take it the irony of the situation is lost on you ?
The OP has a great opportunity to reduce the amount he/she has to pay back and that opportunity was nearly lost because of the prejudices of a few whose own history shows they have been less than effective at sorting out their own debt problems.0 -
