No neither of us are, well I'm not anyway and I think he's married.
I've heard no more about this and I saw him outside of the office an hour ago - we just exchanged hellos. I think it could have been just a fleeting comment and nothing more to it.
Did he wink at you or lick his lips at all?0 -
The $64 question is whether you are male or female. It would be massively inappropriate for a male boss to invite a female staff member to lunch out of the office...
And us males, are indignate, nay, incensed by your very suggestion of that gender stereo type. Of course it's not inappropriate. How very dare you ? Do you live in 1972 ? Been watching too much life on Mars ? Grrrrr.;) You'll be telling me next that business trips must only include one gender type in case.
Personnally I think you insult both parties to suggest that. Anyway, she'll find out soon enough, how inappropriate senior male managers think they can be, when out of the office. Unlikely. :rotfl:0 -

Ah, now "we must grab a sandwich sometime" is completely different to what I thought you meant by "invitation to lunch" (as in formal set date and place...etc). I agree that it was probably a throwaway comment at the end of a conversation, nothing more.0

Well it's on for today - just got confirmation.0

Surely yo know that females are only considered worth taking for lunch if there is a sexual intent? Heavens forfend that a male boss should be considering poaching a female to their team based on their intellect/ ability at their job/ knowledge they might have about a competitor....
To clarify: I work in a large organisation with very firmly defined codes of conduct and I have seen colleagues drummed out for having completely blameless relations with staff of the opposite sex. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but if I were in the position of wanting to pick the brains of/poach/network with a junior female colleague, I would do it in my office, not over lunch. It's not impropriety, it's the appearance of impropriety that does the damage.
Anyone who does not see the dangers is naive in the extreme - we live in an age of finger-pointing and blame culture - but anyway, this is irrelevant as the OP is a man!0 -
How did it go OP?0

Perhaps Alpha was looking back over a long career with an organisation which may have behaved like that in the 1970s.
At that time perhaps the organisation was like Queen Victoria who believed (or was thought to believe) that no woman would ever engage in homosexual acts and therefore only male homosexual acts were outlawed but, in this case, they believe all their staff are most definitely straight.
I wonder if the company had a "firmly defined" written policy on this matter. If it didn't, it would be very difficult to accept it as a fair reason for dismissal of anyone with the required length of employment to bring such a case. Of course, if it were simply, no fraternisation whatsoever outside the workplace then the genders of the staff doesn't matter.0
