Personally I allow myself £25 a week for "fun" that includes all the things you mentioned, takeaways, cinema etc. I'm all for saving and and making sure I'm financially secure for the future, but you have to allow SOME fun for the today :)

I agree, and some sorts of fun will cost money. But there is tons of fun to be had that doesn't cost more than the effort you make to have fun.

Shame my earlier words fell on barren gound. Hey hoh.

Archi, no barren ground here, as my old granny used to say "if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all"

Maybe you should spend a bit more on fun time and cheer up a bit!!!

I take out £50 every Friday and this is for the week. Drinks, maybe lunch out on Saturday plus any other miscellaneous spending on things that are not budgeted for.

I am currently working up my new budget after a period of mad money spending due to wedding/honeymoon and moving house etc, so i have currently put down £175 a month for me and £175 a month for the OH, but unsure if this is realistic, high compared to others, low compared to others or what!!!

    Cheers

Personally I'd say that's very high, unless you're including putting money aside for an annual holiday out of that budget.

About £750 per month...I think that's about right. £25 per day...

I don't have a set amount, because it varies so much.

If it's a month where we've paid for a cruise it'll be thousands, if it's a month when we've gone to the theatre and had a meal in London it'll be hundreds, and if we aren't doing much at all it'll be less than a tenner.

In months where our 'fun' money is less, we save more.

It's almost impossible to say what a typical or average figure should be, as everyone has different lifestyles, interests and commitments.

  • What % of your income is that £350 per month? sounds like a massive amount of money for "fun".

We probably spend around £200 per month on stuff like that as a family.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • As others have said it depends on your income and outgoings.

I earn £10,000 a year. After paying all essentials... bills food etc and then running my car plus I save £25 a month into emergency fund, putting £50 a month for holidays/xmas I am left with £100 a month. This is what I allow myself to spend on me ... clothes, shoes, hair cut/colour going out ...without getting into debt.

I have a couple of girls nights a month... bottle of cheap plonk at friends houses (under £3) walk there and back as we all live near to each other. Sometimes one of us will cook a cheap meal or we might club together and share a takeaway

I use vouchers for lunch out and ask for a jug of tap water ... in most places its free

Watch out for cheap deals - 2 for £12 etc

Rent movies on Virgin and buy cheap popcorn, cinema is too expensive even on orange Wednesday as you have to pay to park at our local cinema & if you drive out of town its costs more in petrol

You don't have to spend a fortune to have a good social life, but if you want to and you have to money then go for it

  • Like others have said, my fun budget varies a lot. For example, if I've planned to go to London with the girls, I usually end up spending hundreds - train and tube tickets, shopping, meals out and hotel all included. However, if it's a normal month and I'm just working and going out with my friends during the odd weekend, it's less than £50.

I take lunch from home and there aren't any shops in the area which limits my spending during my breaks at work - which is probably a good thing!
