"We probably spend around £200 per month on stuff like that as a family".
£200 per month on fun and entertainment for a family. That is still way too much IMO, yes far less than the OP. Cut it back to like £75-£100 maximum for a family.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you can't enjoy yourselves and it is pointless in being a tight, miserable skinflint, but money saved for a rainy day is security. I just hate it when people blow their hard earned cash on c**p, while others blow it on retail therapy to make themselves feel good and then feel so bad afterwards.
Why?? Because you said so??
The first and the second statement are mutualy exclusive..
As long as people can afford it and enjoy it there is no reason to cut back just because you feel that you would feel guilty if you spent so much..
Each to their own. As long as they can afford it and have contingencies, obviously.0 -

It is difficult to define "fun" when you work away from home a fair amount.
Next week I'll be India, the following week in the USA, I'll be eating out most those nights rather than buying from a supermarket and making something in my hotel room so does that count as fun or not? Will probably go out for drinks with some of the guys and gals too, is that fun? If some of it is reimbursed by my employers does that move it out of fun?
Probably spend too much but earn reasonable money, actively saving a decent sum each month so seems reasonable to me0 -

I usually give myself between £400 - £500 per month for 'fun'.
It's grim up north ;-)0 -

My "fun" money - the stuff I'll take no backchat on from the family - is what the supermarket till roll shows I saved. So I can downshift & not get fun money or spot a useful BOGOF and get a few pennies fun. Plus whatever vouchers, coupons & free 'money' I can source. So I have a couple of quid a week and more if I hustle at it.
I even had to explain to a child why we suddenly had a Radio Times delivered this week - they're as MS as I'm learning to be!0 -
Hi, we have 800 per month disposable income for fun between 2 adults and 2 kids. I worry that this is too tight sometimes which is stupid as we never spend all that so save the rest. We probably on an average month spend 400 ish. Life is for living and enjoyment so might as well have fun within reason!0

I don't really like disclosing stuff like this (so why do it, I ask myself lol).
About £50 a week on takeaways/snacks.
About £70 a week on meals out.
Maybe £25 a week going to see a show/theatre/cinema
So, about £140-£150 a week on entertainment. In this day and age of seeing a high proportion of people around here struggle to find a quid or two for lunch, I find that quite embarrassing.0
