    Today was a spend-free day.

Spent the day babysitting my nephew with my mum. He has hit the terrible twos with avengance today.

No offence to anyone with children but days like today makes me glad I can just hand him back.
    :embarasse

So my spend day yesterday put me over budget. We have now spent £125.03 this month. (however, that should be everything for the rest of the month). Am feeling a bit proud of that to be honest. It's quite a massive drop from £400 in 15 days to roughly £110.
    :o

Today was a spend-free day which means we have now got 13 I think. No chance in hell of getting 25 this month but I will be pleased if I get over 20. (I won't, as I am a bit of an over-achiever so I will be a wee bit gutted but am hoping that I will succeed with december's challenge instead).
    :)

    Hi everybody,

I hope you've all managed to keep warm and dry today.

So, today has been a SFD for me :T

Also today my boss gave me $160.00 (100.00gbp) in supermarket gift cards so they've been put to one side and I'll use them in my December budget and I'll put the money that I would have used into my Mortgage Overpayment Pot :T:T

I noticed that my maths was incorrect in the last post, apparently 7 + 4 = 7 (items decluttered),so I've corrected that :o

    Scores on the doors are:

    Food 162.31 / 187.50 86.57%
    Petrol 138.13 / 225.00 61.39%
    Local food bank 0 / 3.00
    Hair 0 / 62.50
Works Xmas Party 0 / 3.25 (Raffle contribution - goes to local charity)
Dentist 18.75 / 18.75 (Had my appointment and no costs were incurred so 12.50 has gone to a gift contribution and 6.25 has gone into the Mortgage OP Pot.)

    Total 319.19 / 500.00 GBP 63.84%

    SFD 14 / 25
    Declutter 11 / 20
    Extra money earned/made 0 / 80.00
    Misc Spends 39.54 / 0 :naughty:
    Kilometres:
    Start of challenge figure 93008 }
End of day 19 figure 94464} driven 1456km (910 miles)

I'll be back in a minute with the mileage reading - just need to go into the garage brrrrrrrrr :snow_grin ........Done.

For the next 5 days I can get 15% off the Macbook so it would cost around £800. Hmmm, shall think about my options....

Thank you for the details though.. I like to know how everybody goes about things. But I shall say one thing about the MAC book - no no no no no! I cannot let you buy one just yet because now I WANT ONE NOW TO!

I suppose you have to weigh up your options. My cheap laptop (netbook) cost me £250 and it's a 10 inch screen. Good enough (bought two years ago and still going strong) but very annoying when you want to do something else like open multiple pages, spreadsheets and listen to music, etc......worse that it hasn't got a disc drive.... so why not just go the whole hog and get a "proper" laptop.

Because it's £800. But you are loosing money not having one that works But you could put that £800 towards your debt and get it lower. But then why miss the 15% discount.

I'm gonna leave this one with you ...:)......... and now I am tempted..... Grr!

We need a new laptop too, ours is 6 years old and has been updated in the last year but is getting slower and slower and keeps switching itself off :-(
I was looking at a chromebook online but in the flesh they are tiny so I think we may just take the easy route and go back to windows!

  • MORNING!!!

I am having to alternate hands on the hot water bottle as some bright spark doesn't think we need heating today. Not as bad as yesterday I must admit but am not looking forward to the trek into work on the bike over the weekend. Nothing worse than finding a small exposed bit of skin while your at full pelt on the M25........Annnnyway moving on...

Siouxsie.... Lily Allen apparently signed away any involvment with the store 2-3 years ago... but I suppose they won't admit defeat until they really have to. I was going to ask but thought it best not to....

Kangadoo I have high hopes for this place. I need a little bit of space but am willing to get rid of a lot of things in order to save the money and accept a place that seems on the outside - purr-fect! I am just worried about sharing with smelly boys and needing to run to the loo at night in my rollers....:rotfl:..although I am there to live not to impress anyone. Pretty amazing money though eh?..

Stewby I LOVE my friends baby and would keep him if I could................ until he starts screaming and doesn't stop........I understand your pain although this little one is not quite two but has a penchant for slapping me in the face...:(

Kerfuffle............. oooooooh supermarket vouchers. I would be happy with £100's worth of them. Where are you roughly and whats the weather like... you are in the USofA aren't you or am I being thick...I am sure I have asked you before so apologies for being a skatty kat...:rotfl:

Tiptoes go and get those decorations. Only last night I was looking at a little gold decorative shoe ( yes really ) that I got in November 2007 when I went to Switzerland with my mother. My goodness they know how to do it... I really really want a real tree every year and my parents never get one. It makes me a little sad as sometimes I think they will surprise me and make the effort but then I realise how expensive they can be and it's better to feed the family - am impressed with your £10 find... and even more so with your "kick it hard" debt busting talk with the OH... well done to the pair of you. You can pat him on the head for me...:rotfl:

    TennisFanatic - come on you can do it - 8 in a row! 8 in a row! 8 in a row!:j:j:j

Am amazed at anyone who has the heating turned off... I have in my little head the ideal house that I want - nothing too big, just two bedrooms for me and my pretend lodger.... I have visions of me working like a loon to get rid of the mortgag (hence the lodger) and the decision to travel first but I am lapping up all the information people are imparting.

My LLL puts the heating on and thats that.. which suits me fine for now.... but I would invest in thermals, fluffly slipper booties, socks, a pink tracksuit, leg warmers, pull my cashmere scarf out the cupboard, get a hat with ear muff flaps, a slanket, another cat and 3 hottie water bottles.... and fingerles gloves.... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:...

...........I might never get a TV license and just watch Dvd's....I won't switch the oven on unless I am cooking a few things at once. I won't have a dish washer or a tumble dryer. Or a car or motorbike....:rotfl:..Ok lets stop there....

Who goes to extremes here?? Please tell me I have an extreme cheapskate lurking at least... come on spill some craziness for NSK....

I'm off to refill my hottie..........

    Onwards to Debt Freedom....

i needed a new one in jan and really wanted a macbook air. however it was about £1000 for the size i wanted. i looked at the spec and found a dell laptop for £329 which was better in terms of memory, processer etc.. the screen is not as good as i went for cheapest model but i could have paid a bit more and got a better one. im really pleased with mine and like dell :)

  • Clippy which one is it.. I am not willing to change to Apple but need a similar option... I am always scared though when it comes to choosing one that's adequate... and research takes over my life...

Ooh that is a good price. Dells are pretty good too, at the lower end of the spec but certainly do the job. When I taught my work laptop was a dell.

Thats why we looked at the chromebook but DH was scared of moving away from windows.
I'm like you NSK, I research obsessively about things I might buy to the point that I see a bad review and get disillusioned and then bottle out.

  • Re the laptop discussion. After my cheap Acer broke down (only £200 and still lasted 5 years) I bought a Dell (less than £300) in 2006 (so 7 years ago) to write my thesis on etc and it is still going. I had to delete a few things and restore setting, defragment or whatever (not sure, OH did most of it) but now it is working fine again. The only thing that's dead is the battery so I have it plugged in all the time when using it.

Today should hopefully be SFD 16 then a s I ruined one yesterday for a bl**dy treat. The car is going for it's MOT and service today, so fingers crossed oit's not too dear. Road tax is due too :(. But hopefully between me and OH that should come out of the car account.

Proper check in for this morning.
Not a great start to the day as have had to follow up my "urgent" appointment for the hospital. I was referred in July, had physio and an MRI scan in October and i won't be seen for surgery for another 12 weeks because the surgeon downgraded my doctors referral of "priority" to standard :eek:

I've also run out of coffee:(

On the upside, today will be a SFD as DH said he will buy me some coffee.

Made a few payments to CC1 and savings accounts, really pleased with the numbers I am seeing now :D

Got £90 in my account till payday so that really is good progress even if I haven't managed all the SFD this month.

Got my performance meeting at work later so I am hoping that they will give me some more money!
