Am amazed at anyone who has the heating turned off... I have in my little head the ideal house that I want - nothing too big, just two bedrooms for me and my pretend lodger.... I have visions of me working like a loon to get rid of the mortgag (hence the lodger) and the decision to travel first but I am lapping up all the information people are imparting.

My LLL puts the heating on and thats that.. which suits me fine for now.... but I would invest in thermals, fluffly slipper booties, socks, a pink tracksuit, leg warmers, pull my cashmere scarf out the cupboard, get a hat with ear muff flaps, a slanket, another cat and 3 hottie water bottles.... and fingerles gloves.... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:...

...........I might never get a TV license and just watch Dvd's....I won't switch the oven on unless I am cooking a few things at once. I won't have a dish washer or a tumble dryer. Or a car or motorbike....:rotfl:..Ok lets stop there....

Who goes to extremes here?? Please tell me I have an extreme cheapskate lurking at least... come on spill some craziness for NSK....

I'm off to refill my hottie..........

    Onwards to Debt Freedom....

If it weren't for OH and DS I would live like that now :rotfl: after having been on this challenge for so long and would have the money for the wedding together in no time (just no more wedding to spend it on :(). "Unfortunately" I have make compromises. But as this is our last child :p I might resort to long johns and thermal vests in the future and save on heating :D. I am looking fwd to maternity leave as our finances will be more limited and I can probably get away with introducing (sneaking in) more money saving measures that I can hopefully continue afterwards.

Stewby I totally get what you mean in regard to kids. I got my own but I am sometimes jealous of friends who can hand them over to grandparents etc for a day or night. We got no-one here and are stuck with them all the time :rotfl:. Can't wait till they are old enough to send them back to my parents to Germany for a couple of weeks over the summer :A

    Hey all.

Well - did a food shop Monday and yesterday was SFD number 12, and still have £50+ out of this month's budget spare. I confess my food shop did contain some treats but I figured I'm on holiday - and better cheaper treats from the supermarket than meals out or take aways.

All this talk of MACs... would love one too. My i-phone 4S is due for contract renewal in Feb, but have already decided that rather than just upgrade (I already pay £40 per month) I'm going to switch to a 12 month SIM only contract which works out at £10 per month for the same minutes/text/data allowance as I already have. When I am debt free at the end of the year I can sit down again and work out my new financial targets etc. Just saving that should shave a month off my debt free date hopefully...

Hope everyone is well... It's definitely gone colder this last week - although the sun is shining today for once!!! :)

NSK - sounds like we have the same master plan (minus fluffy apparel!!!)... 2 bed appt and pretend lodger and save save save!!! My ex (VERY thrifty and good with money and who already owns a flat in Spain and has a mortgage over here with lodgers etc) is going to help me out with regards to getting the best deals on mortgages etc and even offered to manage the property for repairs etc if it was in Manchester!!! Bless him!!! Do you ever think though - we've just got rid of one debt and now we are wanting to take on an even bigger one - all be it a mortgage which is an investment I know...

I wished I had done this years ago... but not to worry - better late than never!!!

    :)

    Yesterday's totals updates:

    Food- £145/1£140
Spent £39 in Lidl yesterday which was higher than I wanted, but I did get some shower gel for DH and got a few more cans of chickpeas than planned as they were reduced. Also trip to Asd@ after researching where the cheapest place to buy DH's "executive" coffee for his work- he text asking if it was a spend day and if so could I get some as it was his turn to buy it. Bless. £3 on that.

Over my budget, but I can live with a fiver. Have bought a lot of one off things this month- all the herbs and spices, light bulbs etc.

So still on 15/25 SFDs, but none planned until hopefully next weeks food shop so 25 is doable.

Just tried to pay off the £0.33 remaining balance on a CC and it wouldn't let me- said minimum payment amount is £5. Bit poor! Has anyone else had this? I don't want to put a fiver on it or spend a fiver on it. Annoying.

Fuel- £125/£150. No further anticipated spends on fuel.

Apple muncher- Good luck with the scuba sales. An instructor I dived with on hols sold all of his gear recently and it too was coming up for 10years old. It seems to hold its value well :D

NSK- Good luck with the room viewing. You'll adapt to the smelly boys. And it's not forever after all, you are moving on to bigger and better things :money:

PurpleJay- Good luck with the op. My advice- take mouthwash in case you're fasting a long time for your theatre slot, plus for after- anaesthetics can leave a yakky taste in your mouth. Also quit smoking now if you do, even a few weeks will improve your recovery and reduce any complications associated with theatre.

Less than a week until my job interview and my only 'free' day before then so I need to get my presentation written and practiced!

Hehe Thriftylass, I would happily just layer up everyday, when you've got LOs you do have to have the heating on a bit more! Mine is on low and I only put on radiators when they are needed, I really don't want to get stung with a huge bill as I have in previous years but then I wasn't as money savvy then! i do need to buy some thermal vests though!

It is hard when you don't have any time off from the children, we rarely have much time away from them as we don't like to ask!

    Hullo peoples

    I love this thread I do :D

Just crawled into my pit after another overtime shift and am ready to push out the zeds!.. so this will mean a day ahead of lolling around in my pj's, eating and no spending :p

Yesterday was a spend day as predicted. I topped up the fuel tank to last the rest of the month, did a voucher shop at Te$co, bought a secret :xmassmile prezzie in Costco (42p under budget ;)) and doubled up on omega 3 fish oil after travelling miles out of town to a H&B store that actually had them in stock! Dare not go without it because the oil, in addition to my daily gunge seems to be helping my immunity and have kept my stress induced cold sore lurgies at bay for the last year

Only 7 more sleeps 'til pay day and making a semi final loan payment! :T Im wishing my life away and living for pay days lol!

    Nighty night all

Have you received a statement fyggy? Generally, if the balance is less than £1 and you pay your bill manually, they write off the balance (a great way to make £11.88 each year :))

Yes Kat, that's kinda what's been running round my head for the last few days - paying off debt V getting the computer I want/need. I may have a partial solution. I'm going to see if either the Apple store or PC World will price match the deal. On top of that, my credit card has offered 15 months 0% for balance transfers so if I buy it on another credit card (with 5% cashback) and do a balance transfer (3% fee) and use the "make extra money" section of these challenges to fund it over the next year then I can sort of do it without really adding to the debt - how does that sound? I'll also check out deals on other laptops and see what else is out there.....busy day ahead!

Kat and Abundant, that's what I did with my old iPhone4 when the contract ran out. I got a SIM only £10 deal for 12 months. The actual handset was dying a bit by the end of those 12 months and I upgraded and got a new phone but it's a great way of saving a bit of cash! MsrGSR, I was going to suggest Giff Gaff as well. They run on O2's network so the signal's reliable and they are the cheapest. Try calling O2 though before you leave as you'll be able to negotiate a good deal if you tell them you're leaving!

Today's a planned spend day as I have nothing left in the kitchen that's edible! So, quick bit of work this afternoon (scaled back due to the unreliability of the laptop ), visit to a few computer stores, yoga then a visit to my favourite Wholefoods afterwards!

Have a nice day everyone :)

I was thinking this very same thing this morning.. Before my debt has even been repayed and having gone without for so long, Im already considering doing a university course that will cost a few thousand.. And thats without the decent car that I desperately need to replace my battered old faithful car.. And the holiday I would like to treat my family to.. And that motorbike Ive always fancied.. And the money I would need to save to do aid work abroad for a few months...

    sigh :o

  • Abundant in response to your question my desire for a house is many years away. First I need to accumulate £10,000 and hit the road for a few years - see where that takes me first...
